Thinned it and I launched the ball 60 yards over the green

This is a shot I can hit consistently well. I keep my back foot a normal chipping distance away then angle my front leg out to about the same angle I've go the club on. It's good to practice this one in the driving range on the mats because there's no getting around the fact this shot is harder to play on a tight lie, although sometimes necessary.

Love it. These practical tips are worth 50 times more than backswing thoughts etc. you can put this into use straight away. Your similar video about bunkers has transformed my sand play. Thanks Chris

Very good video and love the channel. I think it would of also been very informative to note the lie of the golf ball before playing a flop. Generally, playing a flop from a buried lie or extremely fluffy lie becomes even that much more dangerous and would tend to lean the player to playing more of the first shot you discussed...chip it on and let it roll out. Just a thought. Thanks.

I swear if I did the shot the ball would land on a green at The Forest of Arden. I was amazed how full your swing was but the ball travelled such short distance. I need to practice, practice, practice.

Chris, like always well explained video. My question is if it's possible to show a lob shot from the fairway over a bunker from about 20 yards

Great video Chris! I love that shot but can only produce it 50% of the time. The other 50% I skull the ball and send it smoking across the green 😂😂😂

Good stuff. My question is what do you do in that same situation if the ball isn't sitting up well or if you're on the fence about whether you can pull the shot off because of the mediocre lie? Thanks!

What are differences between:
1. Lob and flop
2. Lob and short, short pitch
3. Flop and short, short pitch etc.

Where would the weight be on your feet. Middle or towards your left leg?

The issue I have is summoning up the courage to hit it hard enough!

Don't you love when you hit blade to face and the ball fkn rockets 50 yards off the fairway haha... Make sure you get underneath it!

I fucking love my lob wedge, such a fun club

If I try to do this, I hit the ball on the top and goes like a land-land missil to the next green.

Hi Chris,

I am a little confused because other professional teachers teach that for lob or flop shots, you need a steeper angle of attack for increased elevation not a shallower angle of attack as you suggest and this (steeper angle of attack) is accomplished by taking a skightly more open stance much like for a greenside bunker shot. The steeper the angle of attack, the higher the ball flies just like irons that have a steeper angle of attack versus a driver that has a shallower angle of attack.

Using a lob wedge with a shallow angle of attack dramatically increases the propspects of sculling the ball- a too often unfortunate result for me when trying to lob or flop a shot.

@chrisryangolf I'm finding it difficult to get the desired spin even off fairway, I'm wondering do you think that my wedges are the problem(sm4 vokeys)
