As someone who has never had the terms smart and intelligent applied to me, there have been moments when I’ve challenged myself and gone out with those deemed to be smart/intelligent. But my curiosity, inquisitiveness and wanting to have more in-depth conversations, especially on topics away from nominal small talk, never seem to turn out in my favour. I’ll stick to average folks like myself. At least with them you know where you’re at without the pressure. Nor the condescension.
