JR: I love you, Tony. What I don’t love is the years I’ve spent dealing with your inability to become a varsity athlete. You’ve never had the makings.

He asked Junior “Why can’t you repeat something good?” And the last thing Junior remembered about him was playing catch🥺

According to Dominic Chianese, when Tony says “don’t you love me?” It made him actually cry, which wasn’t in the script. Makes the scene even more meaningful.

This hits different when you have lived with someone going through the stages of dementia.

It’s never said directly but it’s heavily hinted at in the show that Tony never had the making of a varsity athlete

My dad was like jr, just straight mean for no reason, when day I asked him if he ever loved me. His response, “ the world is a mean place, I just wanted to make you strong so you wouldn’t be an emotional person.” He never believed in depression or anything like that. I would have panic attacks and he would slap me and tell me “ Be a man!”. I love him with all my heart, he treated his family how his parents treated him, I understand and love him to this day, born in 1953 so they grew up being super hard on their kids.

Damn, as a father, it makes me think about how I treat my sons. “Don’t you love me?” Ouch

This hits home. My actual father never said he loved me or anything. He was never proud of me either. I felt this

Tony and uncle June's relationship was always rocky. Tried to kill him twice. But Tony being old school chooses to love his mom and uncle anyways despite them hating him so bad.

In an interview, Dominic Chianese (Junior) says that he really got emotional and teared up during that scene and that it was his most memorable of the whole series.
