For those who didn't get it, this is one of those classic Sopranos scenes where a great deal was said without the characters saying much. Tony was trying to see if he could score some speed off of Meadow.

Meadow and AJ represent the two-halves of Tony's personality. He is likeable, intelligent, sociable and capable (Meadow). But also depressed about life, apathetic and has no sense of direction (AJ).

When Meadow asks Tony why you're sitting in the dark and he replies I don't know, I like the dark. It totally fits his character and psychological state in this beautiful scene.

these are conversations that at the time don't mean much to you but when your older and that parent is gone you never forget

The word "hypocrite" originates from the Greek word "hypokrites" which means "an actor" or "a stage player". Hypokrites is actually comprised of the Greek prefix "hypo" meaning "under" and the verb "krinein" meaning "to sift or decide". Translated literally into English the word means "an interpreter from underneath". Actors in ancient Greek theater wore large masks to indicate which character they were playing, so they "interpreted" their character and story from underneath the mask. The word was adopted through medieval French, in religious texts, and eventually in English, where it evolved into its contemporary meaning "one who does not have the makings of a varsity athlete."

“You know, I tell people that you’re just like your mother. But you’re all me.”

Meadow’s face: *You* *take* *that* *back*

Love this scene. Everyone’s talking about Meadow running off from the convo and being ungrateful, but she knew he was drunk and rambling. Plus he was starting to get real and deep and this was when Meadow was trying to
still be oblivious to who Tony was and the life they lived.

Meadow was the only person in the world who Tony loved unconditionally, not even Christopher or AJ.

As someone who has a daughter, this scene brings me to tears. Under the surface, Tony and Meadow have the most honest and loving relationship in the family.

Jamie and James act so well together, I truly feel the father daughter connection with their scenes. This scene is a fav of mine.

I have daughters. This scene hits me. Fathers aren’t perfect, but they try. A daughter represents the undamaged part of a man’s soul. Pure love. All he wanted in this scene was for her to realize that he’d do anything for her.

Also Galdolfini was great. He could light up with screen with a smile, but terrify with his fury. All in the eyes. He needn't say a word at times, like Gary Cooper.

No one ever notice how close Tony and Meadow were. Meadow was more like Tony than AJ was. She was dominant, assertive, intelligent, stubborn, strong willed, and etc... AJ was more like Carmella spoiled, selfish, naive, pessimistic, felt entitled to everything and etc..

i love this scene, he’s like a little kid sitting there smiling just excited he got the chance to talk to her that night, she was in her typical teenage phase and he understood that, meadow was his favorite person in the world.

This scene always reminds me of my dad. Now as an adult, I occasionally sit down, drink, and just talk for hours and hours about random shit. He's always been kind of a closed off guy, but when he drinks it opens him up and makes him more sincere and honest. It can also get kind of awkward like Meadow shows in this scene, but it's still an amazing feeling hearing one of your parents tell you how much they mean to you. I'll cherish those moments for the rest of my life.

Love you Dad
