I have a spreadsheet with a month by month breakdown with 3 categories: what went well, what could have went better and opportunities - in that I fill it in with the aim of evidencing times I went above and beyond, times I worked on my weaknesses and times I stepped up and took on more work i.e. why I should be paid more

If you find it hard to describe your accomplishments, etc. Try making a draft, writing about yourself in third person. Think about it as if you are writing about another person, it can help you to be more objective and concise in your assessment.

That is a great idea and I would also advise that you blind copy yourself to your personal email account and do the same thing because your boss has access to your work email account but he could never get in your Yahoo email account create that folder in your Yahoo account that way you have two copies.

I will try this but my assessments are close to mid year around April/May. So I guess I’ll just scour through my emails for the last 6 months for any praises. Plus, they usually do the reviews and if you have issues with it, then you can argue why you deserve better. So good to have these handy just in case.

Also, by creating a template where you can fill in what happened over the previous year, your writing will be mostly done. Sure, you have to rewrite some areas, but it's better than having to write one every year. If you find someone who makes a good report, you can ask them if you could use one of their previous reports as a guide.

I am a big outlook calendar user. So I look back at my calendar and it has every project I worked on, every procedure I wrote, all the way down to my daily tasks. So I can quantify what I’ve done each year. It’s so easy. Bottom line keep track of what you’re doing right. And never keep track of what you’re doing wrong!

Also, when I have to write out my review, I start with bullet points, and then elaborate on those bullet points to make my final review more wordy. The more words you write the better your raise.

These two tactics worked for me for decades. I’ve always got the highest raises and the highest bonuses amongst my peers. This is because most of my peers don’t take any time to keep track of what they are doing at their job. Therefore, they lose out on money.

This is brilliant, Viv! I’ll definitely implement this for next year. I have a similar method but not as simple as this. I create a spreadsheet and fill in positive feedback/ commendations and areas that need improvement/ how to better accomplish goals.
