Stop Overpaying for Netflix

I'm your host, Dizmodo.

Netflix Premium and Standard are awesome services for specific viewers, but you may be overpaying.

There are specific benefits to Netflix plans including streaming quality, ad free viewing, and downloading for offline viewing. These benefits are great, but not all Netflix users need them.

Let's talk about how to avoid paying more than you have to. Overpayment comes down to a few different things, and I discuss them here in this video.

Comment below how long you've been subscribed and which rate you're paying!

Netflix is trying to become an expensive cable company. They aren’t getting my money. If everyone keeps signing up they are going to keep raising and taking away features. Once they see success the rest of the streaming services are going to follow suit and streaming is going to be the price of cable.

Netflix just charge 24.98. That's 300 a year now. December is my last month. I will be canceling before the new year. I will save 300 next year. I am tired of the price hikes.

Definitely going to change my plan for Netflix to the standard. I’ve been using premium for years and it keeps on going up. It’s at $22.99. I definitely need to save some money. Thank you for sharing your about your savings and about the different plans of Netflix😊

That US pricing is interesting. I'm from Canada and the ad tier and ad free tiers are a dollar difference, but on opposite ends. Instead of $15.49 and $19.99 for ad free, it's $16.49 and $20.99 here. Which one might think is understandable due to the US vs Canadian dollar conversion. However the ad tier standard instead of $6.99, it's $5.99 here in Canada.

I'm not surprised though. I just read an article that since Pluto TV launched in Canada just a year ago on Dec 1 2022, it was easily one of the company's biggest international success stories to date as Canada has garnered the company over a billion total minutes viewed monthly. Something tells me that's a higher ratio per population than what they're getting in the US. So it would make sense Netflix would give Canada a discount on the ad tier since we're probably more patience, don't mind watching ads as much as people in the US, and bring those streaming networks that glorious ad money.

I canceled Netflix after being unable to play anything in 4k, I have a 4k TV and was on the top tier. The broadband speed was no problem I'm on 1 GB with Virgin Media. I use a 4k Firestick cube but still couldn't get Netflix to play 4k. Yet I can play 4k content on YouTube with no problem

Fuck Netflix, they were making bank before and not paying their shows' actors well, these price hikes are just going to make the top richer. Pirates all the way.

I think you were too nice to 720p, it looks horrendous. At 720p I'd definitely rather pirate 1080p streams online. 1080p is fine and you get used to it, but you definitely see a difference. It always depends on the camera quality of the movies as well, some stuff looks absolutely insane in 4K Dolby Vision. The good thing about Netflix is you can change up and down. I'd say maybe stick to standard for your usual weeks where you work a lot or are not watching a ton because of summer time, but then spend 5 dollars in winter months to get excellent quality for some blockbusters or shows you had on your watch list.

I may be understanding it wrongly, but if I use standart subscription, and don't add extra members do I still get charged for it? (for the extra member slot)

Another way for netflix to squeeze money out of consumers. So the standard with ad is $7.99 with 1040p but the standard without ads is $9.99 with 720p. Wow

Who even really has time to watch movies? Also, in the US people pay for so many things they don't even use and live paycheck to paycheck not to mention deliver a house for 30 years and can not even pass it down to your child since he still needs to pay taxes to get it and will still be paying taxes on it after it is laid off. Do we even own anything in this free world?

I would spend that savings on season tickets for Turkish olive oil wrestling or even better, if you can find ancient Greek naked olive oil wrestling. lol

Wow, there sneaky having limited stuff and have adverts for the 4.99 one, the standard one is 10.99 which is way overpriced for me. I'm searching for a way to get the cheap one, but to block or skip the adverts, as I hate adverts with a passion. Thanks for sharing.
