I got the annual plan last March. Did YouTube tell me to get another year this March? Nope they only told me about the $18.99 per month plan. But I went to my accountant/membership page and renewed another year. The fee went from $120 to $140.

Awesome video, you just saved me some money. Im on android and it was easy to switch. I just cancelled it and it tells me it will end at the end of February. Then there is a renue button, i clicked that and it gave me the option for the annual. So now my plan ends the end of February of next year. I did it through the YouTube app by the way if you guys are wondering.

Thank you Michael! I learned in the first 1:20 of your video the answer to a question that has been annoying me for weeks: YouTube Premium does NOT auto-renew. I've been trying to cancel all of my deceased parent's memberships/subscriptions for weeks, most of which auto-renew. Other videos show that you're supposed to click on Manage Membership to cancel or deactivate. His account never had this option. Great video.

I can't believe how much money I wasted on YouTube in the past. I wish I could get all that money back. I canceled premium a few months ago and never looked back. I can live with the ads, they're not that bad. I just didn't think the cost justified being ad-free. I wanted to cut expenses. I felt cheated in a way as premium does nothing to block paid sponsorships which are basically ads. Really didn't feel like I got my money's worth.

Premium is disgustingly expensive for people who just want no ads (the vast majority of people). No one gives a shit about YouTube music, that’s what Spotify is for.

Yeah I've known about this asinine issue but the real problem for me is there is no Family Annual Plan. Unfortunately YTP is not the only 'hidden' if you want to call that annual plan for streaming. Others you must also cancel and then switch to annual.

I do agree that we should be able to switch from monthly to annual Premium without canceling it first, i just find it so annoying as well as the amount of Ads that i have to deal without it, plus it sucks horribly that it’s only individually and not for family members as well so YouTube really needs to add it for our families too.

OK, I plan to put this theory to the test on December 31. My 1-month free trial expires Jan. 1, 2024. I signed onto the PREMIUM plan for $13.99 and yes, I see no way to top-up to the annual plan. WEIRD! And I haven't received any email reminders of the upcoming expiration. So, it looks like I will have to CANCEL Dec. 31.

Anyone here know how to either give youtube premium as a gift to another individual (when I go to my account, it only offers the option to change to a family plan), or, how to purchase a gift card that apparently recipient can then redeem for a youtube premium subscription?
I am going mad trying to find instructions that actually work for either option.

Thanks for the heads up Michael. I'm currently monthly. I suppose I like YTP enough to pay up front for 2024. Strange how the cost of yearly YTP matches cost of yearly Prime Video to which I'm already subscribed. I'm checking out reviews of MAX and Netflix. So far it seems to be a choice of which one sucks less :)

Mine just ended. I won't pay them just to mitigate ads. It's not as if they are giving me content I don't already have access to. Its actually just a hustle. The download is of no use to me really and turning it off and it keeps playing, so what lol.

Here’s the flip side…. You do annual, decide you don’t like it and want to cancel. Will it be easy to get a refund on unused time? Can you get someone on the phone? How can you get confirmation (from a human) that all your issues are addressed? Not every website has all the answers on their “Q&A” sections
