🤔How Much Weight You Lift With Push-Ups?

💪 During Push-Ups, how much of your bodyweight do you actually lift?

A 2011 study investigated this by analyzing 6 different push-up variations [1].

With the traditional bodyweight push-up, you lift roughly 64% of your own bodyweight. With the kneeling push-up, you reduce the amount of weight you lift to 49%.

If your hands are elevated by 30cm, you push up roughly 55% of your bodyweight. If you raise your hands 60cm, you push-up 41% of your bodyweight.

Elevating the feet by 30cm results in you pushing up 70% of your bodyweight, so the push-up becomes harder. When you elevate the feet by 60cm, you push-up 74% of your bodyweight.

Now, it is worth mentioning that the push-up weight at different elevations also depends a bit on your height. So consider the figures discussed in this video as general guidelines

So, with my bodyweight 75 kgs doing traditional pushups, its equivalent to bench press approx 50 kgs, right?

I don't think it's just height to take into consideration. Body type as well. Pushups would be a little harder for someone like me who's more top heavy and have most of their weight above their waist. So my percentage of weight lifted in a pushup should be a little higher since more of the weight is closer my shoulders.

What about differences between genders? Since weight is usually distributed differently
