0:21 "unless you are using horrible technique" like 80% of the gym goers.

If you told me yesterday that Dr. Youn was gonna duet Noel, I wouldn't have believed you! 😩😩 The collab we needed 🤩

If daddy says it doesn't stop your growth, it doesn't. Simple as that

Hmm, well I didn't lift weights before I was grown, so can't blame lifting weights on being 4'9" tall! Seriously, though, Dr. Youn. What can cause a person to be so short?? I wasn't premature and I don't think I was malnourished as an infant (I certainly wasn't as a child). My short stature is one of the things about my body that I am coming to accept about myself and given that I'm no longer willing to wear elevator shoes (to get to be 5'1"), I'm just going to be terminally short. Take it or leave it.

However when you’re very young and do intense exercise e.g. gymnastics you can grow slower, cause your body simply put so much energy into the sport. there are examples of twins where one did intense gymnastics and was mich smaller than her twin, I think you catch up on growth though when you stop.

This exactly. I've been going to the gym regularly for a while, lifting and all that, and weirdly enough I just hit a huge growth spurt. I wish my friend would believe me though

Hi Dr. Youn just saw a video of a 100 year old lady award winning heavylifter and she's looking happy and very healthy. So much so I'm considering trying it myself. Like Pilates correct technique is key.

Just wanted to say gymnastics stunted my growth. I was projected to be 5’10. My family is full of tall relatives over 6’3. I’m only 5’4. Doctors even said my growth was stunted from gymnastics. 🤸‍♀️. I started it at 9

I just feel like every guy I knew who started weight lifting young maxed out at 5’8

I was scared for a second Because I’m 13 working out thinking that I will be the same height forever 😂

Children and teens are more susceptible to this type of injury though because tissues aren't fully developed yet so, still need to exercise (tee hee) with caution/ and a trained professional who knows how to specifically train children/teens if you're talking about competitive / elite level athleticism

My older sister was big into gymnastics competition from childhood throughout high school (age 18) and she's only 5'4 while I'm 5'7. She's always thought it was the gymnastics that made her short. Maybe it was.

I think I’ve heard people thought that because child coal miners tended to be short. I could be completely wrong but I think I heard that.
Edit: yeah I was right it was a study in the 19th century that thought British coal mining children were shorter because of the heavy coal loads they would carry but it was really because they were mostly poor and malnourished.

What I heard was lifting weights makes you grow horizontally, instead of vertically.

As a teenager who is very short and lifts weights, I can confirm my growth plates never existed and lifting weights is, if anything, my body's (and mind's) coping mechanism
