No, russet potatoes are just white potatoes also known as Idaho potatoes. Redskins are normally called "new potatoes." We normally only get white potatoes, red potatoes or yellow potatoes in the USA.

Last Winter we had a power outage and it ruined the seed potatoes I had saved that were in the fridge. I bought Organic ones 9 lbs for the price of 2 lbs of seed potatoes and they worked Marvelously. As you said in this uncertain times I'm going to try and start some indoors in January and plant in my sun room in Feb and put them outside in March. I hope to plant consecutively from Jan thru Jun giving me potatoes all year long.

Jan 11 I planted a trench of Red Potatoes in the front porch garden bed and the 2 side beds already have some plus I combined my buckets into one massive container with drain holes and propped up on bricks to give drainage. Hoping for a decent crop. Also have garlic and green onions going in a small patch and in containers. 😃 Planted Reds and Golds for all rounders! 🙌🏼

In America our Russets are a giant brown potato with a white flesh and are for baking. 😊

I grow enough potatoes that I have enough to pull my own seed potatoes from. I’m on my 5th generation of using my own. We don’t have a way here to buy cheaper wonky potatoes, and the local farm stores were either out quickly or high priced.

Russet potatoes are avariety of white potatoes with a thick skin. They are great for baking (jacket potatoes you call them? )

In the USA they don't always put the variety of russet, red, gold potatoes. They might put the farm irt was grown for traceability, if it is organic. Maybe the region it was grown.

Would these commercially grown potatoes not have been sprayed to prevent them from sprouting??

Russets in the US are a broad variety of white potatoes. They can be main crop potatoes, like the Burbank russet, which is the largest variety grown in the US, or the Canela, or they can be a first or second early, like the Norkotah russet. No real rhyme or reason to when they mature, rather russet describes they’re characteristics: brown skin, white flesh

Russet potato is a variety usually brown, smooth skinned, mealy white
flesh, oblong shaped, best used for baking whole (jacketed) or deep
frying for french fries (chips). Burbank Russet, primarily used by
Mcdonalds french fries. Grown, manufactured, and packaged under
very strict standards for taste and uniformity.
Now, in the states, the bag only says "Russet" I suppose based on
characteristics. The ones we grew last year did grow true to form from
shop bought. So, I guess, someone over here has decided that's all we
need to know based on how they will be used. Oh, there is NO variety
of any potato named Idaho potato. That only suggests the potato of
any true variety happened to be grown in Idaho.
Nice reveal Jim, on both the Suffolk's and the Angus's!
That's the amount of info we get. Suppose it could be geographic as well.

Russet potatoes have a brown thicker skin. Can grow very large.

Russets are brown skinned and scab free. They are good for fries(chips as you call them), baked potatoes and mashing. They are normally oblong and of good size. Russets in the U.S. are a common super market brand, followed by red potatoes and some yellow varieties. In the U.S., The potatoes are just marked by variety, with really no additional information.

Personally, I think I'll stick with having my potatoes in my buckets. In the ground, you have to dig them up, risking damaging them, plus you might miss some!
