Decades ago, I had store bought potato sprout. I threw them out in the yard. They grew. I didn't harvest them. Those potatoes left in the ground sprouted also. Now, I have potato growing all year round. They keep coming back. Free French fries anytime I want.

Great video and haven't tried growing potatoes from supermarket ones. I will have to try it but I am going to wait until the spring next year because I have other plans for this year. Continue having fun gardening everyone and hopefully you have a good harvest of your crops.

Great video! You have such a nice accent! My son and I attempted this last yr in zone 6b. We planted inside a plastic lined laundry basket w so-so results. We plan to do so again this yr; hoping for better results. 🙂

Hi Erica. Yes your videos are very inspiring. Keep it up! I'll tell you what happened once. I bought a bag of white potatoes from the market. I didn't know the variety but I bought them with intention of planting them all in the garden. If I remember there were several rows in all. Anyway the weeks passed by and nothing came up. Eventually I dug some up and found they hadn't grown at all. I later done some investigation and found that there were treated with a chemical to stop them growing! I don't think the major supermarkets do this practice but it was a whole lot of wasted time and effort.
It's true home grown potatoes taste so much better. I think the worst vegetable to buy in supermarkets are plastic bagged carrots. They seem to go rotten in just a few days and taste bland.

Hehe my dad has potatoes all over his garden, because he puts the skins off his shop bought ones into his compost. He's had plenty of lovely, healthy spuds out of his flowerbeds! 😀 I'm primarily growing Setanta this year, they're an Irish variety so have been bred for blight resistance and hardiness. 🙂

Erica i have done this for the last three years and always get great crops. I keep aside the ones we like and chit them.

Hi Erica. Nice vid. I'm going to try some Pentland Javlin seed potatoes this summer. I do have a shop bought potato growing that I sowed in April. It's in a fairly small pot. It is flowering at the moment so I won't harvest just yet. I'm looking forward to seeing what - if anything - I get.

Some shop bought potatoes have been treated with Growth Regulators to make them store longer and as such can be slow to grow.
