Having had an m1 air 16gb since launch (which has been excellent!), workflow changes drove my requirements to a more powerful setup. I waited and waited for the m2 pro/max to come out toward the end of last year. I couldn’t wait any longer and picked up 2 m1 max 32gb (14 and 16) for me and one of my team at the end of December, £500 and £299 cheaper than msrp.

Imagine my horror when the m2 pro and max got released! Then I saw the price in the UK and £749/25% more for 20 - 30% more performance thankfully didn’t seem worth it.

If you can get m1 pro or max for substantially less than msrp then they are still well worth it. The price increase in the UK has left space for the m1 series as long as they remain in stock.

I am still using my 10yr-old 2013 MacBook Pro 12hrs/day. Had new hard drive and battery installed a couple years ago but other than being stuck with Catalina, its still working great. My hard drive crashed when Apple tried to upgrade my OS to Big Sur without M2

Thankyou for being honest. I was looking to buy a new laptop for video editing and some 3D work, but waited for the m2 to come out. Now the m1 max is more affordable & basically the same

Just thinking about the different strategies with the cooling fans, i’d take a punt the fans coming on later on the m2 was needed to get the full hour of extra battery life over the previous model for marketing purposes.

it is a joy to watch your videos :) Your videos are edited in a very professional manner and the reviews and comparisons are spot on. You also include chapters in your videos which helps most of us to come back and look at a specific portion of the video. AND this is probably the most important thing lol... you publish video in 4K 60fps... thats like... i drool when I watch your smooth videos. it is a joy. Love from India :). Don't shift to 30fps haha..

For me, the differences, the application, Vivid, it makes the display 50% brighter so I'm getting the 16 inch MacBook Pro

I don’t have a MacBook, but I’m thinking about getting one. For drawing/ note taking/ school work. Should I start with the M1 Max or start with the M2 max? Been researching but I’m at a crossroads on this decision because it’s pretty pricey.

Mac is good for anyone who doesn’t actually use programs for work, engineers (except software, and coders) can’t use Mac mostly because the programs we use for simulation and calculation are exclusive to windows for now, it’s a shame really, it would be the perfect laptop if it would work for us without boot camp.

I'm stuck between the M1 and M2 max. I'm favoring the M2 because logically Apple engineers learned what they could have done better from the M1. However, the $400-500 difference is very tempting. I'm thinking more cores would be helpful but I never have paid more than $1500 for a laptop. Curse words!
