What's hard for me is using they/them in a familiar context, not the switching of the word itself. I'm completely down to call anyone by their preferred pronouns, I just get stuck and my brain defaults into he or she when talking bc I can't make the switch fast enough. When I was a teen we were used to using they/them in singular, but it was always about someone far away, who we didn't know the gender of. Once that person is close, it's like something shorts out and there's no word to use (I get that that's not true. I'm working very hard to change this because I care about my NB friends, but it's hard for older people's brains to catch up!) Thank you for the video, I'll keep trying

I love that you made this video. I recently had to start using they them. I never realized how difficult this is until I tried putting it into practice and I really like and respect the person so when I mess up I feel horrible. Anyway this helped alot, I'm probably going to listen to this a couple times because there's so much good information in here. Love and respect.

It feels kind of weird about it, cause I feel I’m referring to a type of group than the individual. But I’m trying.

(smacks head) I've been using they/them pronouns to talk about girls since I was a kid to not let on that they were girls (I might get teased). I actually thought it'd be more difficult, which is why I searched for this video.

Lol loved the missed call example. Made me feel dumb for a sec😅can't believe basic english that we use everyday was suddenly confusing. Mindset/Mindfulness is indeed everything...very helpful video🙏🏾

This was a huge help thank u so much for taking the time to make this video. I have recently made some new friends who go by they/them pronouns and have been having a bit of trouble getting accustomed to using the correct pronouns. It has been a little frustrating for me because I really do want to be respectful of their gender and not feel like the dumbass I am. I will use these tips and the information from this and definitely get better at it. I'm hoping to make less mistakes from now on.

Hi I have a question, I know I´m super late to this video, but I need help. Do I say for example "Kate do you have time?" or "Kate do you all have time?". Sorry it´s probably really stupid, but I´m an overthinker and want to get it right 😅.

Wow! I am 62 years old and I was able to explain this to some family members last night because they kept trying to tell me how confusing it would be to address an individual as they, them their. I told them we already do it and that he, she is a construct that was created and it wasn’t always use like we use it now. I have to say that I did a great job. I told them that everything in life is always evolving so it’s better to learn and evolve and change with the times because change is unavoidable.

Thank you for this video, i have been struggling with this issue and many videos made me feel stupid or defensive. Your video was very clear and the examples of how they them is used in sentences, as well as the issue of how not to confuse others when speaking / referring to the person in conversation is great!
It’s sad that I have yet to find a she or he identifying person who could speak clearly with me on this subject. Change is hard but necessary in all things, your video gives those of us who are supportive but confused a little bit of grace. Thank you.
