"Be kind to yourself! You're trying, you're just a fucking moron!" I need this as a t shirt.

I always love the sentiment of "I don't quite get it, but I'm trying my best" it really warms my heart, especially with older folk, its so wholesome

My sister misread his name too except her interpretation of it was “Citrus Black” and I never let her live it down.

“Be kind to yourself. You’re trying. You’re just a fucking moron.”

That’s… weirdly uplifting.

As a non binary person, I respect and understand when people struggle with it when they’re my family or people I’ve known for a long ass time, because at a certain stage conversation and language becomes second nature, so I am asking you to alter a habit and that can be awkward. So yeah, I 100% understand, assuming the person is trying and not actually complaining about having to try, cuz in the end, it is kinda hard

I already can't remember people's names, so having to remember pronouns too is just like, asking a lot of my poor idiot brain. But I do my best, because it's better to be a forgetful idiot than a raging asshole.

The Serious Black example hit home for me because for years I thought you pronounced Ginny with a hard G (as in "gate"). That was embarrassing 🤣 it's a great example of how much work and time it takes to rewire your brain out of a habit, just like someone's pronouns

My dad still calls professor Snape "Professor Snipe" after like 20 years.

Edit: I’m putting this before my actual comment, I will not argue with *anyone*. I will only *explain*.

She’s right though! It’s not that the pronouns are hard, it’s just that remembering the pronouns can be hard. I use different pronouns than I did as a kid, and two of my siblings started using they/them pronouns. *I* still mess up their pronouns sometimes even though I also use they/them!

She like the only comedian that’s able to be consistently funny without ever being offensive. It’s a true talent, not a lot of people can do what she does!

If it makes you feel better, Taylor, according to JK Rowling, the whole *WORLD* messed up Voldemort's name

The analogy I use is that when a woman gets married and changes her last name it takes me years to get her new last name right.

I feel like too many comedians will use the lgbtq as the butt of their homophobic jokes so I was worried but it was so perfect and well done thank you

I love this! We all struggle to remember shit! I'm allergic to wheat AND buckwheat, so I eat mostly gluten free stuff. My allergy to buckwheat used to be fairly mild, but has gotten worse recently, and they've started adding buckwheat to more random prepackaged wheat free (aka usually just GF) foods, and GF flour blends. Do you know how many times I've given myself an allergic reaction in the last year because I forget to check the package of something new or something I haven't had in a long while!?!?! WAY too many
I've also had to stop and think to remember how old I am more times than you might think would be normal at 33.
I have looked someone I know really well in the eyes and called them the absolute wrong name.
As for Harry Potter, I thought they were called "Perfects" not "Prefects" and it also took me years to correct that, even just in my head as I was reading.
Then there's the fact that I will say things like "heat seater" instead of "seat heater", or "you need to ice the sidewalk" instead of "de-ice the sidewalk", and I won't even notice half the time.
There is no way I am smart enough or articulate enough to not mess up your pronouns 50 million times, and God help us both if I'm tired, stressed, or forgot to take my ADHD meds.
I always feel so guilty about it because I felt like I was a bad person for messing up, and this joke just made me feel much better about all of it.

I love this. Pronoun jokes can be genuinely funny, and this is how. Don't punch down.
