I see cops mess this up all the time...

Cops confuse the Community Caretaking Doctrine and the Emergency Scene exception to a warrant. There IS a legal difference– the Community Caretaking Doctrine does not include the home of a citizen. For the Emergency Scene exception to a warrant, they MUST articulate why there was an emergency happening INSIDE of someone's home. They cannot just barge into people's homes and blame it on an emergency, although some try to.

They aren't "confused"- they know damn well what they can and can't do. They just don't care. They know that cops are never prosecuted for entering without a warrant.

As an ex cop, please never enter someone's home without a warrant or proper consent from the homeowner or reasonable adult within that home. That'll keep you out crap. Lastly, if there is an emergency prior to the police arriving dispatch will give a description of the situation. It is then up to the officer to asset the situation. Remember you'll have to articulate your actions, and lawyers in court will destroy you if you cant. Always treat people the way you want to be treated and never violent anyones civil rights. Stay smart and safe people.
