Why I Use Reaper DAW Instead of Protools or Logic

Reaper is now my DAW of choice. If you're new to recording software this is my recommendation and I'd even recommend you to consider it if you use a different DAW now.

Reaper is incredibly light on CPU and so stable, especially if you use mainly stock or JS plugins.

I LOVE Reaper, it's my favorite DAW. I work at a school that recently installed a super nice recording studio, it has a $45, 000 Mac in it. It has Pro-Tools installed as well as a few other popular daws that have all crashed the computer. I installed Reaper on it and it has no problems at all because it functions so well. Add a few free apps and few paid and no other daw can touch it. I really like Scaler 2, it helps me generate new song ideas and has some good usable sounds.

As a Reaper user a few more great features:
1. Works offline. If your internet goes out you keep your product registration and all your paid DAW features.
2. Can be set up as a perfect DAW for narrating audiobooks.
3. Works on Linux and a Raspberry Pi.

There's so many good reasons to love REAPER. Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of capable DAWs out there, but REAPER it's the one that just seems to "feel" right to me.

I love the community, the development pace, the business model, the stability, and of course the extensive feature set. I've definitely enjoyed testing out the new comping methods in the more recent development releases, there's some cool new features on the horizon.

Great video! Looking forward to seeing and hearing more!

Reaper forever for me. The program and the reaper community are great. The creators are awesome.

DAW's are pretty much apples vs oranges these days. Just whatever you prefer and how you like the workflow and the different amenities they offer. If you like it cool. I've been using Cubase for over 30 Years and never felt the need to switch to anything else. Just a matter of preference. Just keep makin music my man. As long as you like this program just keep rollin with it

Very good video - good production values - Reaper is so well coded, unlike the bloated, layered programming on Pro Tools with layers of newer code piled on layers of old code very inefficient. Reaper is very stable as a result. Mine has neve crashed in ten years.

I run Reaper on four PC's --- no donglebongle to contend with.

Reaper is very customiszable and flexible. Pro Tools prides itself on not being customizable.

Pro Tools pricing is bizarre. Reaper is cheap and simple.

great video tommy. i own a reaper license but im old lol 53. despite all of its pluses for someone who isnt super computer good ive always been a bit over welmed but how powerfull and customizeable it is. i have however been reminded by your video that since its a new year i need to stop being a bonehead and learn it and learn what i need to make it work. thanks for the content and happy new year.

Hello Tommy, glad you became part of the REAPER family. I was a sworn Garageband then Logic user the month they were released and thought I would never switch. BUT as a career pilot, MXer, gear head, electronics addict and 58 year old guitarist that has been a home studio hobbyist since about age 8, I am a student of all and a master of nothing; so I gave REAPER a look during the world shut down for something new to try and oops that was an eye opener. I have been obsessed ever since and only revisit Logic for it's sounds and loops library. Are you still making music with your sister (Gabriella)? Did she go on to be involved in music as well? I did the same thing with my younger sister before we could drive - me on guitar/her singing, but she developed other interests and moved on. Music has saved my soul and I almost can't go a single day without some form of it. *Sorry for the long post 😉

I initially hated Reaper and went through the phase of trying out most DAWs and finally arrived back at Reaper. It offers everything you'll ever need. It is so light on the cpu & doesn't get in the way. The only other DAW I feel worth having simply because it's so different is Live 11. Between these two you can do everything and anything

After +20 years of using PT I finally got totally fed up with Avid's "Gibson-like" monopoly arrogance and mismanagement of a once leading platform. Discovering WinAmp creator Justin Frankel's DAW (REAPER) and especially Kenny Gioia's instructional videos on REAPER in 2019 (which were an essential help in managing the learning curve) was an absolute revelation to me, and I've been happily using REAPER on my last 4 albums as my workflow sped up nominally 2x from the days of PT. Sorry, but in my life, unless I need to do the occasional file conversions - Pro Tools is history to me.

If u want to make music, logic comes with stock ready to go and easy to learn Daw, in reaper, it takes lots to get things running, I mean I dont know even action names how to sign them as shortcut to emulate other daws shortcut

Reaper and Kenny Gioia. What's not to like?

But in the production phase (midi recordings) it behaves worse than Logic, on reaper 6 if you open a pianoroll window the daw starts with cracking sounds and the RT CPU jumps up...

Eventhough reaper is not my favorite d.a.w but it should get compliment because not eat your cpu. I have 2010 hp compaq laptop, still can running reaper v6. My second choice after studio one

Reaper handles the CPU like nO other DAW. I’ve got a high end machine and Reaper let’s me use all of its power. Ableton is the woRst. Studio One has incredible work flow but also poor CPU utilization. Pro Tools I don’t bother with.
The Action list is a very powerful feature.
Reaper for life!

Reaper is cool... I've got Studio One 5 and now 6 and I love it with just a one time fee... Oh and I use the Valhalla Supermassive on every mix...
