How I Jumped 6 Inches Higher In 4 Days!

If you want a FREE week of jump training click here:

My name is Isaiah Rivera and I have the highest officially tested vertical on the planet at 50.5 inches and am the co-founder of THPstrength, a company that focuses on vertical jump training for athletes.

What makes me a little different from most athletes that jump high is that I started with a pretty low vertical and documented my entire journey on this channel. Here is my journey in a nutshell:

14: Started working out to jump higher for basketball
16: Hit my first dunk and shortly after found out about the world of pro dunking
17: Trained like a madman and hit my first between the legs dunk
18: Entered my first professional dunk contest
19: Knee pain almost made me quit dunking
20: Met my coach John Evans, who helped me get rid of knee pain
21: Won my first international dunk contest
22: Tested a 48 inch vertical and started coaching full time
24: Tested a world record 50.5 inch vertical

The reason I make so much free content about jumping higher now is because it’s a resource I wish I would’ve had when I was in high school that would’ve prevented a lot of unnecessary mistakes and injuries.

My mission is to share my passion and love for dunking and training and to make dunking an officially recognized sport.

I hope that I can be an inspiration for your jump training and dunking journey,

Isaiah

I remember doing Air Alert, Vert Shock, Vertical Jump Bible, and Jump Manual as a kid, when it comes to max effort jump, I always got the same jump height. It was frustrating completing those programs without gaining any meaningful vert. Then I said "fk it", made the the penultimate a zig zag step, didn't care for my jump technique and only tried to jump as fast as I could (because I just wanted to skip all those steps and jump high in the air 😂)

To my surprise, I touched the high bar that I couldn't before. That's why I found out that it doesn't matter how heavy you are, as long as you jump a high velocity, you will reach that height. A spontaneous jump that skipped steps and just went as quick as I could and it beat all my previous jumps where I focused too much on perfecting my techniques.

But that's only paper, your body will automatically slow you down in the Penultimate step approach if it deems the force you about to create too excessive for your knees to handle. Some examples: trying to jump high even though you are overweight (in the bad sense), or trying too fast of an approach even if you are light.

This is where strength and power training come in, by increasing the physical capacity, you have the potential to produce and absorb more force, your body would then allow you to _perform a faster approach_

Also, don't skip the eccentric portion and train your landing too. You can only jump as high as you can land safely from. If your body get used to this, it would allow you to jump at that height again and more consistently. For this, do depth jumps, drop jumps, depth drops, etc.

Thank you. New things, and I also like repeating the basics, you did both.

This knowledge is very interesting I will adjust my perspective through experimentation with these concepts, thank you!! 🙏

Question : Off one foot, the faster you run, the higher and farther you jump.
Off two feet, can you jump even higher if you sprint really hard for 15-20 steps?

hey isaiah i was wondering your suggested rep and set numbers for each stage of vertical jumping (strength, power, and elasticity). Also what are the main differences between the power phase and the strength phase.

I believe you isaiah on this vid. And why and that's because when my best was just grabbing the rim prior to any program i used. But yeah i had a pass to a gym trial and my legs where virgin to weights so this personal trainer saw me grab the rim in the gym so he comes to me and puts 95 pounds on squat rack and he says do this 20 reps and then he takes me to leg curl and u forgot what it was but he said complete it and i did and i swear when i left the gym my legs where numb and practically the week legs where sore to where i couldn't even touch the rim. So i would play basketball without jumping and on the following week kids where having a dunk contest at my school and i felt my legs felt fine and felt in the mood to attempt a dunk so i jumped and swear i touched the rim with my forearm nearest crease of elbow. Yeah none of the regular school dunkers wanted to hand me the ball so i could see if i could dunk so took my attempt without the ball and thats where i touched. Unfortunately i got a job in hs and couldnt train like i did in meeting a pschyco trainer like i mentioned but yeah that was the best results ive had. So yeah i wasnt into lifting weights never did bench only push ups or no squats or any leg weights whatsoever ever but those where the results i had

Hi Isaiah. I'm in your THP program. But I don't know how to use it. I'd like to send you a video so you can help me correct it.

What’s crazy, is you look slow. At least when dribbling and running.
