LEARN MORE ABOUT THE SPIDERS IN THIS VIDEO:

Here at MyWildBackyard we investigate the secrets of the natural world- secrets that can be hidden in our very own backyards! I want to share the incredible world of insects, spiders and other wildlife with you and inspire you to explore your curiosity. Get out there, and find your adventure!

For those who read the description- we've updated the channel! I'm working on adding more features to videos to better expand our conversations about the secrets we find in the natural world! Introducing the Creature Tier System! There are four rankings:
1. Staple - These are the lowest tier creatures. They are the most common species in a given habitat, and while they're not boring, they're really only exciting when you're exploring a new habitat and you haven't seen them before. Not something to write home about.
2. Neat - These are a step up from Staple. They don't make your entire day, but they are worth taking a closer look at when found. Definitely can be exciting to have a productive day finding many Neat species.
3. Wild - These are exciting to find. Whether they have interesting defensive features that offer a nice challenge in the field, are particularly cool looking, or maybe a little bit rare, Wild species aren't necessarily the MOST memorable of encounters, but they definitely make your day when you see them. An adventure featuring many Wild species will truly be memorable.
4. Gem - These are special. Usually involving extremely interesting biology and significant rarity, Gem species are animals that you really do not see every day. These species can make your whole adventure, and will be very memorable.

I can’t even imagine how horrifying a human-sized wolf or fishing spider would be…

Giant Japanese funnel web scares me the most. They're medically significant, really big, super fast, and have one of the craziest webs in the spider world. It's one species that really freaks me out. Glad I don't have to worry about them.

I have had many enjoyable encounters with jumping spiders, one of my favorite critters. Once I was out taking nature photos and was focusing my camera close to a tree and a jumper leaped onto the lens, just seemed to want to explore me and my camera. The spider and I spent the next hour together taking photos and enjoying each other's company.

You are very interesting and unique. I’ve never heard of a spider 🕷️ enthusiast like you having been a recovered arachnophobe. How on earth did you overcome it? I have tried to overcome the fear but I can’t. I once tried exposure and went to the museum where a scientist offered to put a huge black tarantula on my hand. I nearly died from fear and asked to leave the room where all of these hideous spiders were housed. I have tried to follow the logical mantras and axioms you have stated here and also to recognise that they are much more scared of me and cannot hurt me. But for me it’s the fact that they look terrifying and can run in any direction towards and away from me: they can hide and reemerge at any point. I wish I could get over it. How did you do it? Thanks from England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

a japanese janitor at 1am when i returned to a complex, showed me the utility room, in which there was an old unused fridge. He banged on it with his broom, and a million spiders sprinted up the walls from behind it. The whole wall looked like it was moving. It still haunts me.

Im mad that your calm analysis and insistance on them being cute and cuddly is actually breaking down my phobia in real time. I might just pick up a jumping spider if i see one.

I am always fascinated by those big spiders but I'm absolutely glad that here in Germany we don't have any big nor venomous ones in the wild ;-)

Between you and Jack i cant think of anything you will not grab, or get bit by, when i was young i lived in Pinellas county Florida (must have been 1974) i saw those jumping spiders all the time, but i think i remember them being lots of colors like black or yellow some even other colors. thank you for being very respectful of all life, its cool.

Great presentation! You gotta get out west to Colorado! They have tarantula migrations in south east CO and here where I live on the Western Slope, we've got some huuuuge wolf spiders that live down at the Colorado River. Also, if you go a bit more west to Moab in Utah, they have got some gigantic six spotted fishing spiders!

I was already scared of wolf spiders, but I think something that really cemented it for me was that the acromantula in Harry Potter 2 are basically just giant wolf spiders and they were terrifying in that movie. I saw that as a little kid and it made it big impression

I've lived in Australia my whole life, and I would personally rather handle a tarantula over Huntsman spiders, they are by far the creepiest spider we have here and we have had multiple in our house. But they never do anything besides run fast. Easy to remove just a container and lid

in n.z we have the wolf spider fastest spider, like epic speed huntsman but it couldnt have been a huntsman since it would have been to big, the spider i saw go from1 side of a sawdust hil around 7 metres over to the otherside in 5 seconds was the size of a mans palm its colour was very huntsman like tho or what i called a wolf spider greyish snowy

ok from your video you described the wolf spider being fast, but my spider was 3 times that size so what a huntsman ?it was lighting fast

5, 4, and 3 are all absolute sweethearts. And both jumpers and wolf spiders are really adorable and intelligent. Jumpers have an innocent face, wolf spiders have a literal frowny face.
