As a child of the 80s and 90s, ricer was a dis because domestic cars were considered cooler. Muscle cars were still affordable, 5.0 Mustangs, G-bodies, 3rd and 4th gen F-bodies were everywhere. You had to really like JDM to be a ricer back then. Nowadays the domestic offerings that are cool are limited and unaffordable so the enthusiasm just isn’t the same.
