Ahoy TheThings fans! Today we’re diving into some of the behind the scenes of the film that not only reignited a dying genre, but also kickstarted one of the biggest franchises in Hollywood history, and made Johnny Depp into a tried and true superstar. Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl was a definite risk by Disney at the time, the film had languished in development for years and was almost shut down months before filming. When it ultimately debuted in theaters in the summer of 2003, it was a monster hit and spawned four sequels. The film, which was directed by Gore Vebrinski and produced by legendary producer Jerry Bruckheimer, followed the unholy reliance between blacksmith Will Turner and the flamboyant pirate Captain Jack Sparrow, as they go on a quest to save Will’s lost love as well as get Jack his old ship back from his allies turned rivals who are now undead. The Curse of the Black Pearl definitely took advantage of it’s hefty budget, from an extravagant makeup department, building ginormous sets, filming on actual remote islands, and constructing actual pirate ships or even remodeling ships to look like pirate ships. It took a lot of work, that ultimately paid off, to make the film that we still love today. I remember seeing this movie when I was 3 and stuck in Dayton Children’s hospital due to cancer, saw the tattoo on Captain Jack Sparrow, got to meet Johnny Depp, and I told my mother I wanted the Sparrow Tattoo. She told me when I turn 17 and still wanted it, we would go and get it. 14 years later, and I had gotten it on my 13 year cancer free anniversary (which was June 17th, 2021 when I got it). Unfortunately I had nerve damage on the very spot I got the tattoo on due to the amount of IV’s I got there, but I got it on the exact spot Johnny Depp has it on and couldn’t be happier

One of the big reason why this franchise was a success is the music. I listened it for weeks after watching the movie. It's so energetic, so uplifting in action scenes, it kicks in the right places. Just try to imagine this movies with different music style, it will be completely different experience and probably not that successful. Now i want to listen Pirates theme again.
