I like how in the middle of trying to stop his boat from sinking, Jack takes a moment to pay respects to his fallen pirate brethren. He’s a pirate, but as Will says, a good man as well.

Such a brilliant opening. It immediately sets the tone of the film while also making us love Jack from the start.

This scene is a perfect metaphor for the franchise.
Like the boat, Johnny Depp is the one keeping it afloat, once Johnny stops, it will sink, be useless and barely recognizable.
The one that will leave the scene with his head held up high will be captain Jack Sparrow.

It is so weird to think that everything, Will and Elizabeth falling in love, jack getting the pearl back, finding the seceret dead mans chest, being chased by cannibals, the kraken attacks, davy jones and his locker, the bretheren court setting free calypso, the giant whirlpool sequence, and will becoming captain of the flying dutchman,  happened all because, jack sparrow, "sailed" into port royal that day
