I still watch The Curse of the Black Pearl at least twice a year. Such a dang classic!

This was such a miracle of a movie.
It's crazy to think Disney stepped out of their comfort zone to make this.

I loved how Jack had a serious side to him in the first movie, and how you were never quite sure whether he was brilliant or just crazy. There were some hidden depths to him. The later movies just made him crazy, and therefore he lost a lot of the mystique and allure.

Barbossa is one of the best villains. He's actually really tragic considering all he wants to do is get the gold so he can bring it back to that chest so he can not be immortal as it tortures him. And Rush's performance is honestly Oscar worthy.

The whole trilogy is incredible. So many well-written characters, and the special effects still hold up insanely well. Especially Davy Jones

Johnny Depp's portrayal of Jack Sparrow is bloody iconic

This flick has held up REALLY well past 20 years. Still so much fun. Great characters. Fun action sequences. Still incredible special effects, and one of the best scores of the century (so far).

No matter what we all think of the sequels, I think we can all agree that this movie is still boatloads of fun and is among the best live-action Disney films.

My #1 comfort movie. I just saw it tonight in theaters again- my god what a classic. I remember watching it as a 7 year old girl with my jaw on the floor, covering my eyes at the skeletons, feeling so physically inside this world and movie it was almost hard to come back to reality.

A perfect story and cast. It brings me so much joy and happiness, the wonder it brought me as a kid remains today. Thank you for covering it ❤

Seeing this movie in theaters was a core memory for me. The audience WENT NUTS when Jack Sparrow tripped over the railing of the fort at the end. People were laughing so hard and burst into applause. Was just amazing.

The original Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy is one of my favorite trilogies of all time. My wife and I watch it every summer. We have gotten tattoos based on them. My wife walked down the isle at our wedding to a song from at world’s end. It’s so sad that they don’t make movies as amazing and epic as these anymore. Definitely what I would call classic!

The true story behind the Pirates score is amazing. At first, Alan Silvestri was hired by the director Gore Verbinski but Jerry Bruckheimer wanted to go in a different direction (less traditional, more rock n'roll), so Badelt was brought on (one of Zimmer's protégés) and Zimmer wrote the main "he's a pirates" tune. This is all just in the middle of when Zimmer and his team was in production for the The Last Samurai and Ridley Scott's Matchstick Men scores. They had only a few weeks to do the score before the movie had to be delivered, so there were lots of composers brought on to do heavily lifting. Anyone who worked on the music team for the Pirates movies always talk about how insane they were. I know for Pirates 3, there were like 8-10 different composers writing music for it, aside from Zimmer, and Bruckheimer is super involved in the music too. Iconic scores though, 100%.

I recently had the freaking luck to attend A Hans Zimmer concert (free tickets!). It was incredible. Just AMAZING. He mentionned the history behind the soundtrack for Pirates of the Caribbean. When him and his awesome band finished playing said soundtrack there was a standing OVATION. 20 000 people cheered like I've never heard before.

The introduction to Jack Sparrow making it to stop a sinking ship is perfect example of how to tell a characters story under 2 minutes without saying a word. You immediate understand the character without ANY expiation- movie story telling done right

To me, as a kid, growing up with these movies; they *were* my Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Back To The Future, etc. I haven't felt excitement for a movie like I had for Dead Man's Chest and even the third movie. Are 4 and 5 not as a good? 100%, but I still like all of them in their own way. This movie series means SO much to me, and I think for a lot of people as well.

They just don’t make movies like this anymore. The costume design, the practical effects, all of it. Iconic

I will forever remember the scene that the Black Pearl rolled into Port Royal at night. It's canons drawn and the air foggy, the eerie music that played as it sailed in menacingly. Such a powerful scene that always sends a shiver down my spine.

I was a 12 year old girl when this movie came out. And all of my friends were obsessed with this movie for years. The amount of fanfiction generated by this film has to be astounding. The collective crushes on Orlando Bloom, Johnny Depp, and Keira Knightley alone must have spawned whole islands of fanfiction.

It brings me so much joy seeing this movie still getting love today. It was my star wars, my Indiana Jones, my avengers to kids today. This and Nolan's batman films are what made me love film growing up. Johnny Depp deserves so much praise for this performance.
