This week, Ginny, Mike and Tom shoot the electric breeze on a variety of subjects, including World Car of the Year, the long-awaited return of the Ford Explorer and Omoda's arrival in the UK . The team also answer listeners' questions to help them find the perfect electric car.

And when we do discuss cars, we find out a lot. From industry gossip to the more mundane practicalities of electric car ownership, it’s the place where we dish the dirt on the cars we’ve been driving and deliver our own verdicts on the latest electric car news. We also like to have a good laugh at the daftest bits of anti-electric news that we’ve seen in the press.

We can’t promise that you’ll learn much. You probably won’t. But if you fancy 30 minutes of idle chat and gossip about the world of electric cars, we’re here for you. If you like it / hate it / think it’s too long or too short, let us know.

Agree the Kia EV3 ticks a lot of boxes. Looking forward to your video when driving it 😊

For Mike: I have had an Ioniq 5 since 2021. I am now on my 4th 12v battery, with the first two replacements done under warranty, but last time I got rid of the Hyundai batteries and bought a Gold standard 12v battery with a 5 year warranty. Had it for 8 months and not had a single problem with it. Get rid of your Hyundai 12v battery and buy a decent one. Your problems with 12v failures will disappear.

Cables. Drive a Niro EV. Cable fits perfectly in the frunck, right by the charging port. Excellent design.

Amazing if the 10kw battery in the 2cv can take it 60miles (6miles/kwh)
Great to see Ginny back❤

Left my i3 for a month in an airport car park with 20% charge. It lost nothing, and the 12V was fully charged. So losing 25% in 2 days is ridiculous. . Whilst in a small seaside town in SW France I saw one Citroen Ami EV, but dozens of Méharis and 2CV’s. I’m with Tom on these, and so obviously are many French.

Yep, I missed you Ginny. Glad your back.
Our first car was a 2CV, and about every brand after that. And now, the car we will get next is a Citroën again. The ë-C3 MAX. 😁
That KIA EV3 looks nice . . . .till you look at the rare . . .Shockingly looks like Quasimodo . . . the Hunchback.

Good podcast. Re signage - I'd like to see some signs which tell me where the charging stations are within the car park. And you're right about main road signs.

I'm firmly within the tidy cables in the boot, camp. The rest of the boot is like a council tip though. The leaf has the 2 handy nets either side, type 2 coiled and chucked in the left; no bag. The granny cable in the right net with my tyre pump, comes out once a year when visiting family.

I think ‘knowing the product’ is key. Many dealers know little about their own cars

For cable storage, the Seat Mii (UP and Citigo too) has a great little polystyrene well, vertically, at the 'front' of the boot. I neatly coil up the charging cable every time, as it fits perfectly. However the adjustable boot floor gets in the way when it's in the higher position.

My god that was nerdy.

Mike, once the 12v has died once then the battery has lost a load of capacity and therefore will fail easily. I always keep a small start pack in my Kia Soul, it’s about the size of a mobile phone.

I'm with Ginny. Cable goes in the boot in a rough coil that can get rougher, depending on the weather.

I always fold, and sometimes tuck. Thankfully there is a heap of cable storage up front and underneath in my Polestar.
Still not enough for a space saver spare tyre though, so I’m just about to put a cargo basket on the roof.

I love classic conversions that are 100% reversible so no impact on chassis.

Makes a car into a daily or genuine tourer.

Plus there is the bit where people can do what they like with their own money!

Must agree with Ginny, cables get chucked in the boot with no regard for packing them away. Also hardly use them as we either charge at home or on a rapid if out and about.

Biggest issue with the infrastructure side of things is that the government have just washed their hands of it and point to all the local councils as it's their issue to resolve. As Ginny says the government need to get back involved.

My last two diesels were a nightmare for keeping battery charge. I had to charge them almost weekly to keep them going. Countless new batteries. Its about time manufacturers sorted this problem out. 12volt batteries aren't cheap!!

Glad your back Ginny, its good to know you're on the mend.

Mike did you get the recent ICCU recall done, and are you still on your original lead base battery? Frankly a lot individuals have replaced their original lead battery with upgraded AGM lead battery. Frankly I would forced the dealers to replace the battery as many here in the US have done. Frankly the original lead batteries Hyundai group sent out were less than stellar, which is the nice way of saying things. But as you know the sweet spot when leaving an EV for a week on end is 40-50% SOC. I would also force the dealer to replace the ICCU which has been stressed though not showing it on dealerships computers. My guess that is ripe for failure very soon.

I have had enough…….. Frunk, I physically cringe deeply every time!!!
This is the UK so surely this should be a Froot or a Foot. None of our cars have a trunk so how can they have a front trunk ?
Loving the podcasts and reviews.

If you are thinking of purchasing a rear wheel drive car, then you also have to consider winter or cross climate tyres. My rear wheel drive BMW rear wheel was confined to my driveway following a reasonable fall of snow. My colleagues reported the same situation with their rear wheel drive cars. After purchasing a second set of alloys and winter tyres, my BMW would sail through snow bound roads. Several car dealerships in my area actually offered a service (at a cost), whereby they would swap out a customers summer tyres for winter tyres, then store the summer tyres until it was time to change them over.
