This week, Ginny, Mike and Tom shoot the electric breeze on a variety of subjects, including World Car of the Year, the long-awaited return of the Ford Explorer and Omoda's arrival in the UK . The team also answer listeners' questions to help them find the perfect electric car.

And when we do discuss cars, we find out a lot. From industry gossip to the more mundane practicalities of electric car ownership, it’s the place where we dish the dirt on the cars we’ve been driving and deliver our own verdicts on the latest electric car news. We also like to have a good laugh at the daftest bits of anti-electric news that we’ve seen in the press.

We can’t promise that you’ll learn much. You probably won’t. But if you fancy 30 minutes of idle chat and gossip about the world of electric cars, we’re here for you. If you like it / hate it / think it’s too long or too short, let us know.

I'm giddy with excitement about when Ginny's patch on the wall is painted.

I've had a megane for nearly twelve months now and the stalks aren't a problem at all, after you've set the headlights and wipers on automatic you only ever use the 1 stalk to change direction. And the car is astounding by the way 😊

On the question of voice assistants…..I have a Polestar 2 (which I love) and “Hey Google” and “Hey Siri” work flawlessly on the Google Automotive software. Also, a short press on the dedicated steering wheel button activates Google assistant and a long press activates Siri for Apple CarPlay so I always have the choice - perfect. Thanks for a great show.

I always get giddy when Ginny's on the podcast :-) . One thing I'd like to know more about in car reviews is how easy it is to turn off certain ADAS systems and if they have to be turned off every time you turn on the car. I often find my EV reports the wrong speed limit or gets afraid of shadows and wants you to brake. There are many little things that would stop me buying a car like capacitive buttons, complicated ways to turn off ADAS systems, complicated window switches and a big one for me is having to put the car in park, I always use neutral (my current car puts itself into park so I don't have to) and have modified all my previous ICE auto's so I can do this. Definitely need a way to change the voice activation handle like you can with Alexa, personally I’d choose Forsooth, not exactly a greeting but I’d enjoy saying it and it would encourage me to use voice activation more

Just to play devils advocate on the left handed argument. I’m right handed, however… in the UK we sit in RH drive cars which means I have to use my LH to control and navigate the touch screen so the switches on the RH are a minimal problem compared to RH users having to use LH screen controls. 😉

I just took delivery of a "brand new" bZ4X. It had done 3 miles when I picked it up but when I got home I found a build certificate showing it was actually already 10 months old.
It had been left under trees in the Toyota carpark at my local dealer and so the paint was damaged and had to be sorted. Although there were no issues with the battery or tyres I did wonder if I should get the wiper blades replaced.
After a couple of days there was a 12V battery warning but when I took it to the dealer they tested it and said it was fine. They also couldn't replicate the rattle coming from the driver's dashboard speaker cover either so I don't particularly have much faith in them.

Whilst I have spent recent years getting excited about new EVs coming to market. The only really giddy feelings are definitely for cars like the Dacia Spring that are well below £20, 000. Real affordability is so needed.

The volume dropping in reverse was meant to be a safety measure. Generally people keep turning the volume up as they go faster and noise increases, but often don't turn it back down when they get to a slower area. The theory is the lower volume enables you to concentrate and possibly hear things outside the car.

Let's hope for us right handers the car industry never brings in a critical control lever that has to be moved up and down, left and right frequently and sometimes has to be lifted over a gate. And imagine if it were the norm for 100 years.

Loving the pod as always. I must dispute the left handed bias when it comes to cars...well in the UK anyway. As a right handed person when i am trying to use touch screens in car im hopeless as its obviously my left i need to use. My left handed wife agrees! Also agree with Mike im not really a fan of talking to cars. Final point. I have a megane etech and i got used to the 3 stalks very quickly. Maybe i prefer the middle dial like the mg4 has for drive etc but its not a deal breaker. Keep up the good work ❤

On the point of language. I moved to Australia in 2006 and was shocked at the language differences. I have had to modify my English to suit Australia.

Googled it
Curry Sauce
It originated in the 1970s when many fish and chip shops in the North of England were owned by Asian families. Just over the Irish sea, the Irish take on curry sauce is a darker and richer sauce than its English counterpart and typically contains the flavour enhancer Monosodium Glutamate or MSG.30 Sept 2022

There can be control issues when seeking to use a third party app (such as Apple Car Play) within a car manufacturer's operating software - with a battle as to which software gets control over which functions.
Apple has been looking to further extend the control given to Apple Car Play when used in a car, hence the move by certain manufacturers away from offering future integration.
Tesla does not offer any such integration, and things such as voice control work really well but its lack of in-built apps is a pain.

Regarding voice recognition, my Leaf has it well sorted. Short press the button to speak to the vehicle, long press for Google Assistant on Android Auto. Our other car, a Tesla, has near on useless voice recognition system. It's a major gripe we have with the Tesla.
