So if this movie reflects Dissociative identity disorder …There is Dorothy the host personality, and then mimi a child alter who preserves Dorothy’s childhood innocence, Mary who holds the sexual abuse trauma (probably actually inflicted on Dorothy) a persecutor alter Duncan, a protector alter Kurt and then Jane ‘the therapist’/ helper alter who tries to help Dorothy make sense of her traumatic past and seems to hold the memories of the death of Her(likely Dorothy’s) dead son David. I think the island acts as the inner world, a place that only exists in Dorothy’s head where the alters reside

This girl did not have multiple personality disorder/multiplepersonalities, she is like a vessel for people that passed away with unresolved issues to communite or solve their issues through her. To a point that she isn't even aware what's wrong with her self cos these spirits are always in control of her body.

As someone who was diagnosed with Dissociative Identity Disorder I am sick of movies portraying us as k*llers. This is not how DID is. The 'origins' of Jane's multiplicity is NOT how DID happens. I'm tired of Hollywood using the disorder that is tough to live with to instill fear of DID. It only further stigmatizes the disorder.

Alters are not separate people living in one body, they are parts/pieces of the core person. Also, multiple personality disorder is an outdated term.
