I work in the industry for around 15 years and I take many interviews. I would suggest that whether or not companies value your competitive programming rank, you would be better off doing them than not doing them. Performance is an important aspect of software development and it helps to have DS and algorithm skills. Most of the time you would not use these skills. But the 1% of the time you do will affect 50% of the application's performance.
