As a recruiter, I find live coding rounds, where I ask the developers to fix a broken code more useful, because it shows how the developer approaches the problem.

Honestly i think it's important if you are preparing for exams that determine weather you are allowed to sit for interview for some big company as they get thousands of applications, its easy way to shortlist for many big companies unless you have something that makes you stand out, in that case you may get referral

If you are looking to invent a new algorithm then maybe it's useful i guess, or maybe if you are looking to create tools made with new algorithm, like maybe a new kind of database? Idk i never liked comp coding, i am more into building stuff
