F150 GEN 4 COYOTE V8 OVERVIEW | Bad Things Changed

preview_player
Показать описание
Ford updated the 5.0L Coyote V8 to the 4th Generation in 2021. This new Coyote came with some major changes due to government EPA regulations, which could leave consumers unhappy. Engine Auto start / stop and cylinder deactivation were now standard on these new engines. Because of the chip shortage engine auto start / stop was automatically deleted for 2022 but cylinder deactivation is still present on my F150. There are some good changes that happened but we will cover those in a later video.

I have not seen any failures of the 4th Gen Coyote, which came out in 2021. The belt driven oil pump appears to have solved the gear driven oil pump issues, at least so far... I see numerous videos of the new 12:1 compression 5.0 with Whipple supercharges upholding 775+ hp with no issues. I am a retired Ford Senior Master technician who just purchased a 2022 and 2023 F150 5.0L trucks and I am amazed at the power and drivability. So much so, that I just purchased the Whipple charger for my personal truck. I will agree that anything "man made" can have faults or defects, and maybe it is to early to tell. But from my extensive research on this engine platform and success so far, my opinion is that with modern build tolerances, this engine will last. I have followed Ford engineering techniques for 30+ years and feel that their innovation is at least superior to Salantis and GMC,

Great video brother, I have a 2011 Ford F150 with a 5.0L Coyote V8 in it with 160, 000 miles on it and still going strong and it's a beast and it sounds like a beast with the Borla Exhaust as well.

Good video - own a 2021 F150 STX 4x4 with the 5.0 having 3:73 gears in the rear end. Love the towing capabilities and fuel economy. My cylinder deactivation is a small nuisance between 41 and 53 miles per hour - other than that it’s not quite noticeable. Hope your truck gives you good service.

Although I hate cylinder deactivation, I appreciate FORD for at least keeping V8 alive unlike Toyota which completely got rid of V8s. I feel like if FORD got rid of V8s, people would still complain.

I’m happy with the stock exhaust on my 22, 5.0 so the CD is no issue for me. It may not be as fast as the turbos but the sound more than makes up for it.

Start stop turns back on every-time you start the truck, if you put adapter from 7 pin trailer to 4 pin with a built in self testing LEDs the truck picks up a trailer connected and kills the start stop

Auto start/stop was added to the gen3 coyote in 2018 along with the 10 speed trans. Thankfully, autostop eliminator is a great fix for it. Keeps your last setting you drove with so you can actually use it if you want, and don't have to push the button every time you start it up if you dont.

I had a Stage 2 Ford Performance Whipple Supercharger at the dealer. Auto shut-off and Cylinder deactivation disabled in the Ford /Whipple tune. Never really noticed the cylinder deactivation before hand to be hones even with the Roush Active exhaust installed Sport mode disables the cylinder deactivation and auto shut off. The belt driven oil pump is rated for 1000 hp.

I have a 22 and the only way I notice the cylinder deactivation is on the fuel economy readout when it jumps from 16 to 25 or more. My only disappointment so far has been that I’m only averaging 17 mpg with 2, 500 miles on the truck while my 15 was getting 19 on 87 octane and the old 6 speed automatic. I run 93 octane in the new one because of the higher compression ratio and I have the good rearend gearing which hurts gas mileage a bit but definitely helps acceleration. One other note about the cylinder deactivation is that GM and Ram have had issues because they are overhead valve designs and use the lifters to deliver the cylinder deactivation and they have had lifter failures. Ford uses overhead cam engines so there are no lifters to fail.

Hey man, just replaced my 2020 2.7 EB with a 23’ 5.0l sxt. I haven’t really noticed the deactivation being bothersome; the EB was hitting 77k and my window of trading was getting small. The thing I hated in the 2020 was the 3-4 slip and knocking transmission if going under 15 miles in like suburban quiet communities, almost embarrassing.

Cylinder deactivation, auto start-stop and a wet belt for the oil pump...

Hard pass !!! 🤢🤮

I have a 2022 F150 5.0 with max trailer tow package. Sport mode or tow/haul mode do deactivate cylinder deactivation. Interesting.

You can get a cylinder deactivation kit for you're 21 and newer 5.0L F150s and delete the cylinder deactivation permanently.

Brother, I don't know what is going on with your truck but, I have a 2022 150 with 373 gears and in sport mode and tow the cylinder deactivation doesn't come on at all.

Get the Ford Performance Whipple package. I believe they get rid of the cylinder deactivation you dislike when this package is installed. I am guessing they also get rid of the auto start-stop feature as well. I'm curious if the oil consumption problem is still prevalent with the Gen 4 Coyotes?

I think ford's 5.0 had a sleeved cyl. Then went with a sprayed sleeve. Reminds me of the Vega oil burner
