Some clown commented on this video telling me I was overdriving, another way of getting bored is having people who think they are Ken Block telling you what to do when you are just trying to have fun. Do what you want to do, have fun on your rig whether its a wheel, controller or keyboard. DiRT Rally is waiting for you.

Learning to understand pace notes was a fun and rewarding task. It made me faster and was more immersive than the hud. I could focus my eyes a hundred percent on the road. Nothing beats the feeling of driving on the limit over a crest or jump and not coming off the throttle and trusting what you heard the co pilot say was on the other side. That is what hooked me on rally. Its my favorite type of racing.

Had that burnout recently after about two years playing mostly AC and Dirt Rally 2. What really helped me over it was Wreckfest. Never played it with a wheel before and it was absolutely cathartic and I was genuinely smiling the hole time.

I think this video resonates with a lot of us. Particularly in competitive modes - iRacing, GT7 online events etc - the constant need to race and improve one's standing relative to others can become a grind. If you don't keep racing, you may lose your edge. But that can be a grind and as your video notes, the 'enjoyment' can evaporate. I take time every few weeks to return to what it is that got me into driving games: the 'enjoyment' of driving. I put the competitive aspect away and just focus on a car and track combo that really grab me, and drive. Favorites include driving a standard R32 Skyline GT-R around the Nordschleife (Gran Turismo 7), an S5 Impreza WRC in New Zealand (DiRT Rally 2.0), and the Lotus 49 F1 around historic Spa (modded Assetto Corsa on PC). These all highlight the pleasure around the simple acteof driving without pushing for competitive times.

Removing the competitive element can sometimes rediscover the enjoyment.

Burnout tends to happen for me every few weeks in iRacing, I just have to recognise it and learn to put it down and either just take a break from simracing or play something else entirely.

I started my sim journey beeing primarly i racer, i played both ac and acc and had a blast in the beginning. Then i got that burnout and decided to pick up rallying and honestly never had more fun!
I also recommend trying drifting as it is also a very chill and more "creative" approach to driving. I also recommend trying the modern WRC cars i EA WRC, great fun, some nice stages aswell!

I played a lot of Forza Motorsport and kinda looked down on my friend who only played DR2 and told him to get in on some real racing instead of driving on their own. Then I kinda got burned out on FM and tried EA WRC and boy was I wrong before. Rally is so much fun and I've now played WRC, DR1 and 2. All those games have so much to offer. Some have better stages, some better graphics and feeling but all worth playing.

To unlock more fun, try learning manual with clutch and practicing heel and toe. I swear that did so much for me in terms of fun and actual skill. Have fun!!!

I just got my wheel a year ago and have added more and more to my sim rig Shifter nice handbreak and now a wide monitor. The game I always come back to is dirt rally I have a hard time doing road racing So i take long breaks from it :\. The dirt Greece long map has been my favorite to hop in a rally car for 10 minutes at a time. I just like doing time time attack on the same few maps to see how much faster and more consistent over time. Also beamng dirt driving has been also a pretty good time I love variety. New rally mode needs work though.

Just found your channel getting recommended good videos so far.

I keep upgrading my sim rig thinking it will motivate me to use it more. I don’t race in iRacing out of fear of lowering my safety and irating…….i know it’s silly. So I have a really nice triple screen custom profile rig, with a ClubSport DD+ and it’s brand new

Switching things up is also helpful. Tired of hot lapping? Try learning to drift. Maybe work on only defending. Do stuff like crank up rain and lower visibility, drive with music, drive with the radio on, etc.

I think the biggest reason I don't use my sim rig is just because I don't have a dedicated spot for it off of my desk. It's a massive pain to set up and take down and it really stops you from getting on for short runs in the sim.

Great video. And honest message 👍🏻 Alot of what you say rings true and im lucky to be in an amazing group of chaps. Come and join us in GRDC. A great group of older sim racers in multiple sims, from LMU, iracing, AMS2, ACC and WRC. We have lots of banter and fun. 😊
