50% of the weight per hand is pretty normal on any dumbell movement, otherwise it will be uneven weight if you did 60% on one hand and 40% on the other.

Do you think it’s really beneficial to go that heavy and risk injury? Would it be okay to do lighter weight for more reps while still doing progressive overload? And pushing close to failure? Or maybe even doing some sort of pre-exhaustion?
