In this episode, we will show you some of the first images from the Euclid telescope, a space observatory launched by the European Space Agency (ESA) in July 2023. The Euclid telescope aims to map the dark matter and dark energy that make up most of the universe, and to answer some of the fundamental questions about the origin, evolution, and fate of the universe. We will focus on three images: the Horsehead Nebula, a dark cloud of gas and dust that is a nursery of stars and planets; the Hidden Galaxy, a spiral galaxy that is partially obscured by a foreground galaxy that acts as a gravitational lens; and the Perseus Cluster, a massive cluster of galaxies that is one of the brightest sources of X-rays in the sky. These images demonstrate the power and potential of the Euclid telescope to capture the beauty and complexity of the cosmos, and to reveal the secrets of the invisible forces that shape our universe.

Isn't it strange how a few pieces of glass can let you see something 44 million light years away. Weird. But beautiful.

These images are nothing compared to even just the first part of the space map that Euclid has imaged in just 2 weeks. The amount of detail and clarity unlike anything I’ve seen but that’s not even the cool part. The cool part is you can zoom in farther and farther on any part of the image and see far away galaxies in amazing detail. It’s mind blowing how much is captured on the map and how much you can zoom in and see distant objects in incredible detail and I can’t wait until it’s finished its mission and can view the full map!!!

Can we see so far back in time to witness the young Milky Way galaxy...?
