How To Save A Transparent PNG with Inkscape

In this tutorial we'll be going over how to save your designs with a transparent background in Inkscape. This will enable you to generate usable copies of your designs in PNG format and without a background.

When saving files you may naturally think of the typical File-Save-As pathway, but with design software it's a little different. Your designs aren't "saved" in the traditional sense, rather they are exported using the Export menu.

What would be really helpful is to state the Version of Inkscape that this video applies to (and indeed, any future videos you make.) When we update Inkscape to a new version, there is always a fair bit of faffing around trying to find stuff that's been rearranged/changed etc.

Also, have YouTube now removed a date stamp on the video title? So irritating...

When I do this my selection still has a white background. What am I doing wrong?

I do not have the ability under the Export /Selection drop down menu to choose "Export Selection Only" or "Hide Export Settings' and no image thumbnail. What do I do instead? Currently have Inkscape V1.1

I'm doing your video on the inkscape logo design. But when I get to the step of stroke to path --> break apart, it doesn't work. Also tried your newer tutorial of stroke to path --> ungroup --> union but it doesn't work either. Please help me!

Mine is still saving bounding box around my logo but the logo itself is transparent. That box is ticked export selection only! What is going wrong?

Didn't work for me. Why don't you start with a new image instead of selecting from an image with multiple images?
