The flooding cave system in the intro is 100% accurate my first fort got destroyed 2 days in cause I tried digging into an underground river and didn’t realize it would start flooding my entire base

You don’t need to avoid aquifers, just be sure to smooth the walls and floors above and the rocks won’t leak into your rooms. Water leaks through walls and ceiling tiles. Constructed walls are also water tight.

OMG man ! you saved me ! your bonus tips about strange mood ! My militia commander Rimtar Otungmeng, Legendary Hammerdwarf in full steel, has been possessed and claimed my stoneworker's workshop. Later he got berserk mode and killed many peasant dwarfs until his brother in arms, another Legendary hammerdwarf ended Rimtar's berserk mode with his hammer and heroicaly died during that.
Missing piece was - leather. One cow laid down her life to save many dwarfs. Thank you for your tip :)

This condenses 50 other videos into 1, well done. Very useful. Not all of this can be deduced by just playing around with the game, either.
Thanks.

This is by far one of the best, and most concise tutorials from this game! Thanks!

You wish leather is good for armor for any dwarf. :D Sure it is better than nothing, but still is quite inadequate, even for dwarves that are intended to shoot as they love to engage the enemy in melee when possible. Probably a good point to have added is if you are going for missile troops to give them designated zones to fire from, and not open ground for them to charge at the enemy.
Also, don't put arrows in containers. Same with seeds.
ugh there's so much to this game that needs more in depth tips.
You could mention dogs and pigs are the best animals to begin with since they only need a pen zone which can be anywhere as they don't need grass.
You could also mention that the moment you open up a cave underground all floor tiles that are not stone will begin to grow fungus and moss which count as 'grass' for purposes of grazing animals.
Trade merchants require 4 tile open ground to move their caravans to the depot. If they can't they will only bring their animals, thus have less goods to sell and less carry weight to accept.
Learn to make drawbridges. These a practically impervious doors to invaders. Perfect for fortress entrances.
A well is a requirement for some rooms which is perfect if you can utilize an aquifer for - infinite water source underground.
If you make a tavern, you risk more thieves and unwanted trouble into your fortress if you allow all to access it. Switch it to residents, and citizens only or citizens only to avoid this. As a noobie you don't want to have to deal with early issues of outsiders freely welcomed inside your fortress.
I mean there's a LOT of things to take into consideration. Blind has a channel that includes some in depth aspects of the game.

I've never gotten to the stage of making metal products, as I never dig deep enough. Generally some game bug screws the game up making it no longer fun to play. Losing is fun when the game is running as intended, not due to bugs :/ (like dwarves ceasing to do work, dying of dehydration when there is ample drink, enemies immune to falling damage, archers running into melee, trade depots not getting emptied, no digging upwards, dwarves unable to use more than one ammo type, oh the list goes on and on)

I told my friend if I was on a desert island trapped forever THIS is the game I would bring on a simple thumb drive and play was blown away to even know a game like this was possible.

I started with no trees. Had to trade for wood but I made it work!

I think for a traction bench you need also a chain (perhaps a rope will do?), which can be a pain to obtain at the start

Honestly, prepared food is by far the best trading item, even early on in a fortress it's usually the best option, to the point where it feels overpowered.
