South is only good for power leveling yourself with explorer notes. West is by far the easiest option

i once spawned in south zone 3, set up my house, and while exploring the more inland beach i turned around to see a rex spawn directly behind me

I reccomend spawning in south zone 2 as on the island thingy there is not any dangerous creatures (apart 1 sarco and some birds you can easily outrun), it is infested with dodos, lystros, turtles, parasaurs, trikes, trilobites and ducks who give organic polymer. There is also 4 explorer notes really close so you can get a decent headstart.

On the island one of the spaces that is marked as medium but is really easy is the western isthmus. It’s not too crowded either creatures, with a singular Sarco spawn being the most dangerous thing (I’ve seen 2 spawn at most) and little to no raptors if you avoid going into the forested areas. You might get one or two insects but they aren’t hard to kill. This was my second ever landmark that I started in on ASE and it was way easier than I expected, granted I started on the east side just north of the swamps.

One of the best spots is around 80 55 The Little inlet by Hunter artifact cave as it has no hostile spawns except for a couple sarco spawns towards the east

I for some reason still have this raptor that killed me dozens of times kept in a containment cell. It's like a giant dome enclosure. It's max level with near perfect stats but I never tamed it. I respect it. For a while I turned its enclosure into a gladiatorial arena. The fights were against similarly sized creatures and the boy never lost. Anyone else got a story like this with one rival creature.

To be honest I find the west 3 to be easiest while also being a shorter trip to pick up Argus and then start doing metal runs from the volcano. One handy trick is to set a base right on the temperature border so you can breed cold weather tames before you gain access to air conditioner.

Yea I tried this last night. Good off that. Waking up next to an Alpha and a Trex at the same time is a different type of ptsd

I’ll say there is a beach area far enough from arctic for rexes, and sabers to kill you, but close enough to where when you need an argy, they are right there

south zones are good, but they're progression blocking, because they force you into getting a flier in order to get to the central parts of the map, no one in their right mind tries to make it through the swamp with only the creatures that you can reliably get in the southern areas

Sz 3 is right next to a cave, swamp, herbivore island which gets you obi, crystal, a base location, sarco tames + other, and herbiv has ankys and metal as well as lots of wood and stone, great for base

What I usually try to do is to progress fast, I usually level up until I can get a raft then travel along the coast until I reach edge of the arctic then set up base there
