Why does America have poor social policies? Because it's run to benefit corporations, shareholders, and the rich. People are seen as sources of labour so why would you spend money to benefit them at the cost of your bottom line?

If you look at the US government policies from this point of view, all their actions make sense. It's what happens when the majority of election funding comes from private entities and companies.

Of course he was a socialist. He was highly intelligent and a good person with a conscience. It's unfortunate that many Americans associate socialism with so much undeserved sigma. In America there must be some sort of propagandistic campaign that encourages people to express an absolutely contemptuous attitude regarding anything which could remotely be interpreted as a socialist persuasion. Even social democracy is attacked, disregarding the fact that it's still technically capitalism. America's conservatives irrational and unhealthy attitude regarding socialism is not an attitude that most of the world shares. Where I'm from socialism isn't seen in the same light as it is in the United States.  

By the way, the ending isn't funny at all, it's just annoyingly stupid.
