If you have children to make society happy YOU are the one who has to deal with the consequences. NOT your parents. NOT your relatives. NOT your friends. YOU have to deal with the sleepless nights, the missed days at work because your child is sick, worrying about why he/she comes home late at night, wondering who their friends are, dealing with bullying at school, possible drugs and alcohol addiction, dealing with possible teenage pregnancy, having to find money to pay for their college, worrying about who they will marry, if they get raped, murdered, or worse, get cancer or a terminal illness. If they go bankrupt, get involved in a lawsuit, lose their money, etc.. YOU have to suffer and be stressed. You lose your happiness because you followed what society wants. Your child may leave you and move away and you may be left alone at your old age. All because you tried to appease your mom, dad or society. At the end of your life, youre left thinking was all this pain and torture worth it to bring another being here? Then your children will do the same and ask the same question. Its the never ending cycle of misery.

I am of Indian origin. I never wanted to have kids, it is not a concept that Indian culture understands. I am in my 40s now, I am quite happy with my child free life. Don’t get pressured by the culture and society. I don’t live in India I am sure It would be difficult to stand your ground. But don’t have a child to please others.

guys this is your life. Don't bow down to societal pressure. After you have a baby only you have to take care of it. Your chacha mami and rishtedar will disappear in an instant. If you do not want kids find yourself a likeminded partner. Tell the truth. Don't jump into parenthood because others are doing it. You can never un-have a kid. But if you regret being childfree (which most likely you won't ) you can always adopt a child without parents.
Also our planet is in crisis. Resources have disappeared, water air and soil polluted, high crime rates, overpopulation, climate change. Ask yourself; do you really want to bring a new life on this planet? Do you want your child to suffer? Do you want animal life to suffer in slaugterhouses?
Life can be fulfilling without kids you can retire early with tons of money, no stress, build your career, you can explore your talents etc. Live YOUR dreams.

Would like to extend this to a bit, in context of Indian Parents: I believe all parents knew that amount of hardship and responsibilities involved in bringing up a child, they want their kids to go-through the same and so they don’t let their children to have a “responsible free life“, this is their inner voice but what they actually say is a different story which most of the newly married Indian couple go through.

People in the West talk about overpopulation, climate change, global warming and how it effects us and how they don't want children. China introduced 2 child policy a long time ago. When will the nationalist's wake up in India? Will it ever happen?

Well said. The reaction one gets when they say they do not want to have a child is at majority of times, awful. You are the one who has to shoulder the entire responsibility, go through the entire financial and emotional turmoil. Let people judge you, that's what they do when they do not understand you

I wanted to be a mother but did not want to burden the planet and her animals with another human added. I adopted someone from a "third-world country". I came to the realization that the best we can do for the planet is to not reproduce. It is to adopt someone who would otherwise grow up to be a carnist and who would likely reproduce. Raise him or her to be a vegan animal rights activist who values the idea of adopting vs. reproducing and raising children to do the same. Pour all you have into him or her and you will have done something that, at the end of your life, you will be so very glad you did.

I get the same thing from my in laws living in India the pressure to have kids all the time. They're constantly asking me to "have a baby" and even the neighbors have asked if I'm pregnant yet and said that they're "praying that God will give us a baby" bla bla bla. It's so annoying lol. I just firmly say "No" when it comes up and they'll stop. No explanation needed. Stand your ground cuz people can be relentless about it even though yours and your spouse's private personnel life choices is none of their business.
