I remember in Kabul, I had just turned a family away because they didn’t have the right credentials. My platoon commander comes up to me and says “Hey, we’re not checking for credentials anymore”. It hit me like a freight train that the people I just turned away were seconds away from freedom, instead they’re dead now.

I’ve been ringing this bell for a while. In my old MP unit, no one could keep up with me when went for runs. I’m not a particularly fast guy, I just keep a pace. I love my unit but if MPs and infantry dudes are huffing and puffing down the street, y’all better pray nothing pops off

A Combloc observer watching an exercise in West Germany once asked "You let your Sergeants have maps!?" I'm not sure todays military has that kind of lower ranks respect anymore.

The man's body language reaction to Milley's name mentioned says it all. Milley is just one of them, there's a whole line on the conveyer belt of sycophant officers coming up.

The officer core is extremely career oriented to the point of being arrogant and self serving . And once they make 0-6 and above they are politicians. One of my former BN Commanders made LTG retired then got on fox news right when Russia invaded Ukraine and said the Russians would run out of Ammo in 10 days . What a idiot .

Our military "leaders" had and have no vision - the Russians could see what future wars would be like, and planned for it far better than we have - hypersonic missiles, air defense radars, "stealth" planes that can fly in the rain (and don't cost $85 million each), drones, electronic warfare, etc. We shovel contracts to defense contractors, and oops, surprise - hire us when we retire. In Vietnam, the Colonels and Generals "led" from helicopters high above small arms range; today they lead by laptop in 4-star hotels in far away countries.

Chinese military: we're united and strong.
Russian military: we're lean and mean.
US military: we use pronouns and pretend to not know what bathroom to use.

The fact that nobody spoke up and said anything about all the equipment we left in Afghanistan. giving up the airfield, while boots were still on. Not one general officer spoke up and said it was a bad idea. They were just yes, men politicians in uniform, that just went right along with it..

I knew the military was in trouble, but I did not expect it as bad as it is. I'm really beginning to believe that the in-country defense of the US (within the national borders) is going to be left up to us veterans who still love this country and will defend it.

If you are a two-star or three-star you have one of 4 goals. 1. The next star. 2. Getting on with a Washington based drink tank. 3. Getting onto the board of a defense contractor or 4. TV talking head.That's how you get operation reports for 20 years that say "We are making great progress against the Taliban." It's never enough money.

This is unfortunately what I've been saying for 20 years. The navy doesn't even have optics for their rifles. Not one combat school. We are doomed.

I agree. I read that almost half our attack subs are in need of maintenance. Then 6 months later read in Hindu times and Indian media that the US Navy is trying to make deal to use Indian ports.

I’m an Army veteran from the Ronald Reagan era but it’s BS lack of accountability and incompetence from this era that I will NEVER encourage or allow my 21 or 18 year old to enlist

The Russian army learned their lesson very well in ukraine. They paid its price for sure, but it wasn't in vain. It brought their doctrine from the 1970s to the 21st century. They are now experienced, adapted and prepared for modern warfare better than any army in the world.
