Fix Thunderbolt / USB C Port Not Working on HP Spectre

I have had this issue for a week now where my thunderbolt port and USB C port won’t detect any devices. I found this simple trick while surfing through the HP support community and I hope this helps you to! :)

This video is posted four years ago, but it solved my problem today, a problem I have been fighting with for about a week. The HP laptop lost all connection with the HP Thunderbolt G2 device about a week ago. Noting worked except charging the laptop, no Ethernet, no USB and no screen. Disconnecting everything and reconnecting back, powering off several times, trying to reinstall drivers, updating firmware, Windows and whatnot, nothing helped. When I plugged in another HP laptop everything was working perfectly, so all cables, connections and devices were just fine. I was ready to call HP support and pay for the support, then as a last resort I searched YouTube and deep down, after watching many others and wasting my time, I stumbled over your video. I thought this is crazy, but worth trying, after all, can't cause any harm, so I tried. The rest is history. Everything went back to normal, the Thunderbolt device and all the connected devices plus the two screens started working again. Thank you very much! Your solution, so simple and at the same time, was the only one that really solved my problem.

I have a Pavilion and my USB Type C port goes to my 2nd external monitor and it suddenly stopped working after working fine for several days.

I had been searching in forums and videos for 2 days, I followed instructions to reinstall drivers and other complex things and none of them gave results. Seeing your video I tried it as if without hope that it would work and ohhh surprise.

Congratulations on finding that solution that not even the experts offer and at the same time thanks for sharing it!

Worked also for Victus 15. USB-C with DP suddenly stopped working. Spend whole day trying to solve it, then I found this video. Amazing, thank you. :)

Thank you sir. I have a HP laptop for work (idk what model but it’s new and silver lol) and I had trouble connecting my external monitor via the USB-C port. This worked like a charm. U are the GOAT!!!

Hallelujah! We spent days on this...searching, troubleshooting, getting ready to put it in a shop, purchasing an usb board (which hp gives instructions on but you can find nowhere; seems like you have to purchase a motherboard) and you gave this easy fix!!! Thank you so much and God bless you!

Thank you Curtis! You saved my day. My son HP Omen 15 ek0023dx faced the same problem that the USB C thunderbolt port would not work. Your simple trick solved the problem. We spent one whole night doing everything, update drivers, flash bios, turn on/off bios setting, all the whole nine yard, ordered 2 new cables. Nothing works. We almost thinking of sending it to HP for repair or reinstalling the windows. But your solution is such a great help!!!

I have an 2021 Spectre 14 and this exact thing happened to me. This trick totally works. Unbelievable for HP to have a reccuring bug like this, and my maximum gratitude to Calder and Google for availing this video for the public!!

Wow, thank you for posting. I was having a similar issue with my Zbook 15V G5. The usb c port stopped working all of a sudden. Tried several fixes before this one and none worked. This worked right away, Thanks again!

Today is 12th Sept 2022. Seven months ago I posted a comment thanking Calder. Unbeliveably, the problem manifested itself in the start of August. The 45 degree USB port would drain the battery instead charging it. It would drain a full battery in about 15 minutes. I could only charge the laptop on the side USB-C port. I couldn't find a fix any where and I have completed forgotten about this video. Today it showed up in my recommendations by chance. So I shutdown the HP, pressed the power button for a minute before released. What do I know, the 45 degree USB-C no longer drains the battery. The battery is full right now so I cannot test the charging. Thank you Calder once more, and am beating myself up for forgetting this video.

Update: sad to report the 45 degree port is still draining battery on second look.

THANK YOU for saving my life. Worked with an HP Zbook 15 G3. Both Thunderbolt 3 ports are back to normal.
