Apple original usb c to thunderbolt Adapter How to use Guide:
The Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 Adapter lets you connect Thunderbolt and Thunderbolt 2 devices — such as external hard drives and Thunderbolt docks — to any of the Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) ports on your MacBook Pro.
As a bidirectional adapter, it can also connect new Thunderbolt 3 devices to a Mac with a Thunderbolt or Thunderbolt 2 port and macOS Sierra.
In addition, it can be used to connect Thunderbolt-enabled displays — such as the Apple Thunderbolt Display and LG Thunderbolt 2 displays — to any of the Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) ports on your MacBook Pro. However, using this adapter with an Apple Thunderbolt Display requires a power source, because the display does not provide power through the adapter.
Note: This adapter does not support DisplayPort displays like the Apple LED Cinema Display or third-party DisplayPort and Mini DisplayPort displays. For more information, visit the Apple Support page for the Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 Adapter.

Seeing the back of the box (as shown in 0:15) is very important. This example shows Apple's purpose-built thunderbolt (tm) adapter not a generic convertor. Thanks for posting this working demo!

If you are just using a 4k monitor you could have just used a USB-C to DisplayPort cable. It would have saved a bit of money. This adapter is only really necessary when the device you are connecting uses ThunderBolt 2 like a hard drive or older Mac.

Just in case anyone was wanting to hook up 2 x 30’ Apple Cinema Displays to a MacBook Pro mid 2012 13”, here is how it’s done….

The MBP mid 2012 Thunderbolt 1 port encapsulates two DisplayPort 1.1 (HBR×4) streams that can be used to drive 2 x 30” ACDs. They need to be extracted and converted to dual-link DVI. For this you’ll need...

1 x Thunderbolt 3 dock (not sure if a TB4 dock would also work, but a TB3 one will)
1 x Apple Thunderbolt2-to-Thunderbolt3 adapter
1 x Thunderbolt 1 or 2 cable
2 x Apple miniDisplayPort to dual-link DVI adapters (A1306)

The dock will have two DisplayPort outputs: one straight (mini-)DisplayPort output and another one “hidden” in the second (downstream) Thunderbolt 3 port which is a USB-C port. Plug the first 30” ACD into the dock’s (mini-)DisplayPort output (using a male DisplayPort to female miniDisplayPort adapter if necessary) using the first A1306. Plug the second 30” ACD into the dock’s second (downstream) Thunderbolt 3 port using a male USB-C to female miniDisplayPort adapter and the second A1306.

I have a MacBook that only has 1 input port.. I can’t seem to get my monitor to turn on by using this adapter. I’ve also purchased another adapter and that didn’t work either.

I have an iMAC late 2013. Do you know if this adapter can be used with my iMAC (Thunderbolt 1). I want to connect a Thunderbolt 3 SSD to my iMAC and wondering if this will work. Thanks in advance.

I have a 2014 Apple iMac 27 inch which has a thunderbolt 2 Port - I have a Crucial SSD drive capable of transfer speeds up to 1050Mb/s - Crucial comes with USB-C cable connector - Will this AppleThunderbolt (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 enable me connect my Crucial SSD external Drive to the Thunderbolt 2 port on my iMac and support/enable the transfer speeds up to 1050Mbs ?

Hey 😁have a question, just wondering if a third party adapter will work (USB C to mini display port) to connect a thunderbolt monitor to MacBook m1 pro? If so, do you think the brightness can still be controlled on the screens? Thanks in advance!
