Scotty Kilmer, mechanic for the last 46 years, shows how you can fix your car when the gas pump keeps shutting off as you try to refuel. A little blowing with cleaning out with air is often the simple fix.

Any time I have an issue and a Scotty Kilmer video is the first thing that comes up I do a little happy dance. Always to the point, always intelligently presented and entertaining to boot.

Thank you for making these videos. I've just found them last night after watching a bunch of 30 minute videos taken with cellphone cameras, blurry image, not such clear explanations, and no video cuts to save time from start to finish... and then you come along and make these concise, descriptive and very informational and fun videos. This is some great work!

Been having this issue with my truck ever since I got it a few months ago. Couldn't quite find the answer through a Google search then this video gets recommended randomly. Sometimes you gotta love the algorithm for helping you fix problems you gave up on trying to fix

Headed out to try and troubleshoot this now. It is so irritating hearing clunk after clunk and watching two - three cars fill up and leave while I am not even to half yet. Thanks for the videos, you are a great service to many.

Scotty is right on about the evac canister hose.  I have a 2016 Buick Verano and the first time I filled up the tank the gas nozzle would shut off after about 8-10 seconds.  On the second fill up, I went to another station and the same thing happened. I took the car to the dealership and they did exactly what scotty does in the video. They ran compressed air through the evac hose cleaning whatever dirt/dust was trapped inside and now I have no problems what so ever.  However, if cleaning the hose out with air doesn't work, the problem probably lies within the canister itself which may have to be replaced.

"The long awkward pauses." That's part of the reason I watch and what makes Scotty so great.

I just tried this on my 2006 Dodge Ram 2500, and it worked wonderfully. Couldn't get to the evap canister, so we disconnected the evap line just below the gas tube and some dirt fell out the end of the tube, then sprayed compressed air down that tube. You could hear the air go through it and then there was a soft pop and you could really hear the air flow after that, stuck valve in evap canister. After that I was able to fill up the tank as normal. The evap canister for this year is located above the gas tank and difficult to get to but the way we cleared the tube worked great, thank you so much for posting this video, you saved us a trip to the dealer and probably a lot of money.

Thank you Scotty!!! I've been rackin my brain, or whats left of it on how to solve my evac cannister problem. It apparently creats a "check engine" light. I went to my local CO -OP mechanic and he analyzed my truck the code as "Sumptin be wrong with the evac cannister". I said ok, can it be fixed or replaced, he said yes. After he cleared the codes, for the second time in so many weeks, I thought you better ask Scotty (YOU) what to do. I was also having trouble filling the gas tank, now I know why. I'm in a little TN town called New Tazewell, I've got a 04 Chevrolet Avalanche with over 200k miles. Thanks again, you saved me a slew of time and money.

Finally some answers. I cant believe I missed this video after owning 2 cars with this problem. Mechanics here still have no idea what the problem is. Thet tell me even new cars have this problem. Im going to blow out my lines next fill up. If this is like every other time I have used a Kilmer trick it will work perfectly.

Thanks for this. I figured the tube was clogged, but this fix seems a lot easier than i thought it would be. Just recently replaced my radiator, now i need to either clean or replace this, and i bought a new thermostat. I really appreciate the videos you make.

There are maybe only 3 gas stations I go to where I live, and I normally only go to the same pumps when I get gas there. When I use other pumps they sometimes do this, but the ones I normally use don't. It's the strangest thing. Awesome and informative video! Thank you!

You truly have the best videos. I always do a search on your channel before spending a bajillion dollars on labor at the mechanic. Some of these things are simple enough for a novice to handle but cost 100 bucks or more (usually more) at the mechanic.
