Just a tip. Put your spray cans in hot water for a few minutes before using, it helps build pressure and thins the paint for a finer spray.

The most realistic real life DIYer. Hell yeah we don't always have microfiber and 2K resin based clear coat. We just wanna finish the damn thing today.

Finally someone that doesn't have every grit paper in the store, every clear coat, 30 micro fiber towels and a machine polish.

I love that you mask everything up, then overspray right onto the car parked next to the van

The fact that you masked it off with printer paper and electrical tape HAD ME ROLLING!

Hey I am an automotive painter. My advice would be to go slower with the clear coating sprays. You will achieve better results with only two coats. Because as you slow down the clear has more of a chance to build up as it’s laying down.

Dude, I have been a spraypainter for 48 years and I am impressed with the job you did on the tailgate. Well done Dude 👍👍 Brett from Australia 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺

It looks pretty good, but for a little constructive criticism I would of done 1 layer of basecoat after sanding, then when applying the clear coat only apply 2 layers, with the first one being really thin and letting it dry for a few minutes to create a glue for the 2nd coat to stick to, and on the 2nd coat lay it down thick, the glue you create from the first coat will allow you to lay on a really thick coat without it running: also spray bottom up instead of top down to work against gravity. Then after 24 hours of drying you wet sand it with 5000 grit sandpaper, followed by compound, and polish. Wait 30 days for the paint to fully cure to the metal surface then apply wax for that showroom shine finish.

For a cheap fix, it's perfect. If it's super faded, our local paint supply can mix body color in spray cans, so you can freshen the base coat before you clear. In this case, super fix on the cheap. Awesome work.

Love this! I love real world solutions. I will refer to grandson who inherited 15 yr old car with minor cosmetic issues. I already got him the small suction dent remover, which he loved. Grandma has to provide practical advice because my son, his dad, is all "office" no hands on.

Love the authenticity of this. It's hey I got 2 hrs while the kids are at a birthday party paint job.

Oh wow! This is so great! My Honda has 250, 000 miles on it. Lots of missing clearcoat. Totally going to try this. Give it a spiff up for its final years. Love Scotty too

Best video on this yet. Love that you used cheap paint and didn't have all the fancy gear most guys use. I need to do this to my bumper!

I think that if Scotty saw this video, he would be proud of your kind words towards him. I also think he'd love the fact you're whipping in an old school Toyota. Although I don't think he'd approve of it too much, as it isn't a 94 Celica 😉😂

Thank you so much! This a great simple solution. Even if I may have to do this every 3 to 6 months this is far more worth it to me then trying to pay $1000 to $3000 (worth more than car) to get it touched up or repainted. Best thing is it's an SUV so can experiment on the roof. Even just doing this before a date will keep my car from looking bummy now. Lol. Thx!

I love Scotty. I watch him all the time. You would get great shine with a bit of sanding and buffing.

great job! I just started getting a peal on the clearcoat for me Altima, front left panel. I appreciate the props to Scotty too, he is the best, learned so much from him. Wish we had this stuff available to us when we were kids (70s)
