When you think of some of the best classic rock songs, you’ve got to mention Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin'” and “Any Way You Want It.” The band achieved the height of its success when it was fronted by lead vocalist Steve Perry.

Perry’s voice is what set Journey apart from other bands at the time, as it's hard to imagine anyone else belting out the words to “Don’t Stop Believin'."

Perry went on to have a successful solo career in the '80s and '90s, but what has happened to the enigmatic singer-songwriter since his heyday? Here’s why you don’t hear about Journey’s Steve Perry anymore.

Band or no band, Steve Perry's voice made it what it was . Arguably one of the best rock singers ever .

Steve Perry was the one band member that couldn't be replaced. Anyone with a keen ear can hear when it's Perry doing vocals and when it's not. Steve Perry will always be one of the few truly great vocalists of times passed.

Steve Perry still makes my insides turn to jelly. Such a voice, such emotion conveyed, irreplaceable.

Steve's eventual replacement Arnel Pineda has an Awesome voice and it's great that he's so humble about his meteoric recognition and rise, plus Steve Perry's endorsement must have meant so much to him.

I lived in his hometown of Lemoore, CA and was lucky enough to meet him a few times. He was so gracious and kind. His voice is unparalleled and I would love to see him perform again.

Journey was O.K., but Steve Perry was exceptional. I grew up in 50’s when bands were backups to great singers, so I’ve always been partial to great singers (and there were many in the 50’s). However, from the 60’s on, for my money, the two greatest vocalists were Freddy Mercury and Steve Perry.

Seeing Steve Perry singing along with the crowd, to the stadium playing Don't Stop Believing, is one of the best things I have seen.

Steve Perry has a beautiful voice and soul. You can see and hear both. Was so happy to have been able to see Journey in concert with Mr. Perry singing. Thank you for allowing us to hear your gift. Be Blessed

I grew up in the 60s with all that great music but seriously Steve Perry had a voice that was from out of the universe... powerful, a range as wide as the ocean, and very melodic, what else can you say about him ? To me he was Journey ! A voice of a lifetime !

I don’t care if his voice sounds aged. He sang all of those wonderful songs first. It would be an absolute honor to hear him sing live.

The man wanted a private life after giving most of it to RNR and touring the planet. Dude is 70 now leave him alone.

He’s such a kind gentle beautiful soul. Happiness comes from within not being famous.

Perry has a phenomenal voice and Journey hasn’t been the same without him. I consider myself lucky to have grown up in their hay day.

His voice immediately gives me goosebumps as soon as I hear it.

My understanding was that Steve was very close to his mother. A loss like that is very difficult. Add in his own health issues it did not sound like the rest of the band was very sympathetic or supportive. I would feel like an outsider, too. And, I'm agreement that Journey is Steve Perry.
