I walked away, no contact, and changed numbers. I played dead when he came around. That was over 30 years ago. He stopped trying to reach me. I feel I got lucky not knowing I should do it but did it all instinctually. Nothing feels like freedom.

Oh this all cracks me up. 😂 It’s like they are kids, emotionally arrested to when the child is the center of their own universe, seeking out rather superficial needs and one must decide whether to indulge them. I’m probably fortunate that the narcissists in my life are benign and their Hoovers are either easy to give. But also they had something else to offer in return, they are family or have a special talent that I appreciate (like artists or musicians or lawyers). In this case, one wants these people around just to exist because of what they bring to the world.
