So simple, yet so effective. Thank you for also including lining up the two boards when cutting the first slot in the second board so it’s easier to ensure they match. Now all I need is a table saw so I can make things like this.

It's called an indexing tool.
Have a dozen in the cabinet shop. Some locate rabbits, some repeat hole patterns. All kinds of apps for them.

Yes that jig idea works great for custom box joint projects. ONE tip I've learned the hard way... consider using a scrap backer board to avoid splits outs in back. And get extra bits so you always have a sharp one!

When I was a youngster I lived in what had been a coal mining community, boxes with joints like this were common, the stamp on the sides read “ Hercules Powder “.

Now drill and pin each corner with dowel then you might teach. Been building my drawers this way for forty plus years. 1/8"- 1 1/2" jigs ready to go. Stronger than the dovetail when pinned.

I grew up watching my dad use a table saw to make everything. No router. Just a plainer and a table saw. This is cool though

Don't know why I thought doing a box joint on a piece of fingerjointed wood was so funny 😂

Excellent video and process. Thank you for sharing. I can make use of this process to make my Cigar Body Guitars. Bless you....Add a scrap piece o wood on the end of the first piece or place the next section to be notched to the wood to stop the splinters.😅

How do you mark the position of the second cut so precisely, so that the two cut panels fit together precisely, with the edges of the 2 boards perfectly aligned? I've seen the joints being cut many times, but never understood how the distance between the first and second cuts is set!! Please, I need an answer! Thanks. 👍
