What Type of Acrylic Paint is Right for You?

I get questions from beginning acrylic painters about what type of acrylic paint works best. I categorize them by viscosity in this video. The type that works best for you depends on the way you paint.

Here is the blog post for this video:

Lots of very useful information here. I was also wondering if you could mix the different viscosity acrylic paints, and, what was used to make a heavy paint more fluid - like. TY for sharing your knowledge and information with us. BTW, love your channel and your artwork.

Thank you, David - again! Very helpful information. So far, I use Golden heavy body, but also have gotten some Amsterdam Expert Series paint. What is the difference between Golden’s Fluid Acrylics and Golden’s High-flow acrylics? Do they just add water?

Good Morning David!! Maybe you have addressed this in a video I have not viewed yet or have viewed and can't remember but you mention here that your go to paint is Golden Heavy Body. When you paint do you use mostly opaque colors? I have had issues where I have used heavy body paint but then realized I wasn't getting the coverage I wanted only to find out that the color I chose was transparent or translucent. Using white to make it opaque changes the whole color theme and usually not an option.

Hello David,
I have heard it's not good to add water to Acrylics - at least not too much, anyway. I heard that it will eventually cause the paint to crackle, more or less prematurely. Is that so ? If it is safe to add some water while you're painting, is there a ratio you should follow to not get too much water in your paint. TY for any advice. I have a few more questions, though. Would you have any suggestions as to what I can do about a problem I'm having with my paintings. That problem is this: No matter how closely I follow anyone's directions on a painting, my works seem to end up looking cartoonish for some reason. Could that be caused by the brand paint I'm using ? The brand I'm using the most is a heavy body (at least very thick) Acrylic by the company called *Creative Inspirations.* Do you know whether that is a student or professional grade of paint ? I appreciate your taking time to answer my questions.
