Today we look at three distros that use Gnome and look at how they specifically use Gnome and create a custom look and feel. Who does Gnome the best? Fedora, Ubuntu, or PopOS?
#Fedora #Ubuntu #PopOS

I think all of them are great options and each have their own features that sets them apart from the others:
Fedora:
1- libadwaita
2- semi-rolling
Pop:
1- better compatibility with Nvidia
2- unique implementation of gnome(cosmic)
3- pop's scheduler
Ubuntu:
1- um... I don't know what to say about this one...
Note: I myself, use fedora

I DID IT !!! I pulled the plug, switched to Pop_os. I got everything working except trying to figure out Onedrive.. 3 x 32" lcds with a GTX 1070. Even got DavinciResolve working great too !!

I prefer a pure gnome experience. It's distraction free, I can see how the notification area is important but I don't get the need for an always visible taskbar + app launcher. When I work I open the apps I use and switch between them, I don't keep opening and closing applications. Besides, they are just a super key away anyways, what's the point of pop os extra application launcher, that's already part of gnome. I remember using those in Windows XP...

My daily driver is Pop_OS, it handles hybrid graphic machines really well and comes with the Nvidia drivers built in (on the correct version of the distro) which is really useful for design/ film editing and gaming. I also happen to like the aesthetics which helps 😀 - great vid as always Tom, although your place seems to have been taken by a talking bear 🐻😉

I've tried Gnome over the years, even started with Fedora Gnome when I went all in on Linux. I always end up going back to a "cute" based DE. Gnome just doesn't do it for me (or even GTK in general). Most of what I don't like is my own preference, so it is me and my foibles with it.

Me (headphone user) now knows that desktop icons on ubuntu are for working on your desktop.
Also me needs a new pair of eardrums.

I've tried all three recently and while they're all good my favorite of the three is Ubuntu.

This is not even close. Fedora wins hands downs. Pure Gnome that you can do whatever you want with. The others just break it and make it what THEY want it to be. Fedora is also a lot more stable.

Fedora. The best part of Gnome is its unobtrusiveness and the overview, which the others have broken.

My daily driver is Pop_OS. After trying numerous distros I'm sticking with this, it ticks all the boxes including looks, and I don't feel the need to change the colour scheme or icon styles.

Balance is key, Ubuntu is the middle-term, is the way to go

I'll always be a windows user for my home computer (until further notice). However, after distro hopping for a year, I think I settled on *Pop OS* for my laptop. Pretty user friendly and customizable, runs flawlessly (99% of the time) plus it works well with a 5ghz wifi usb adapter.

I lost my taste for Gnome when they shifted to 3.0. However, I do install each major update, just to give it a spin.
As a disclaimer, I've never used PopOS and haven't used Ubuntu since 4.10 Warty Warthog. I do spin up a Fedora machine on occasion.
That said, I prefer the way Arch ships the desktop. Vanilla, the way it comes from upstream, leaving me to decide what gets added.
That's why I tend to stay away from most other distributions. Too many people deciding how my machine should look and work.
Just give it to me the way it comes from the developer and I'll decide what it takes to make it mine.

I've just started to really respect what POP is doing with their 22.04 Cosmic DE. I think it's just more nooby friendly than the others plus the approach to setting it up is quite logical and also quite simple, especially if you're more a point and click person. The other Gnome variant I like is Zorin Core. Zorin is probably easier for ex Windows people while ex Mac people might feel more relaxed on POP.

I prefer no icons on the desktop. Every Windows user I support has a desktop full of icons everywhere. It looks like trash spread out everywhere; you can never find anything anyway so I'm at a loss how it helps. It's a mess.
I personally can use anything but Gnome always wins my heart due to it's minimalist feel to it. I do not add extensions cuz useless to me. I like Gnome because it is simple, easy, and works great with keyboard bindings out-of-the-box.
POP_OS is still using the older version of Gnome.

< my take on GNOME, generally : somewhat offtopic >

My linux conversion started in the early 1990's with slackware. Boy, what a chore, so it was a love/hate relationship from the start. However, linux kept getting better, new distros started popping up and eventually, after trying LOTS of them along with DT's I quit dual booting around 1996 or so and 'switched to linux' full time. I've lived in GNOME as a daily driver multiple times over the years as well as KDE etal... Of the two, I'll go with GNOME over KDE every time. KDE has f***ed up my system on too many occasions and I've vowed to never use it again. GNOME, on the other hand, has just gone too stupid for me to use now a days. I don't like any of it no matter what distro it lives on. With all the misgivings I'd still choose GNOME over most other popular DT environments. I use arch BTW with cinnamon desktop.

I prefer Ubuntu's GNOME implementation over Fedora, Pop and Debian.

I love starting with Fedora and making my own customizations. Plus, Pop!_OS's Cosmic Desktop is kind of against Gnome philosophy. Gnome stays out of your way, is minimalist and is mostly focused on productivity. Also, I really don't like how Pop!_OS's dock occupy too much place on the screen. For me: Fedora>Ubuntu>Pop!_OS.

Please do ''Who Does KDE Plasma The Best?''. For me that's the one&only Linux DE in town. Can't decide o/t Distro yet, however; thus&therefor sticking with Win8.1Pro until extended MS support ends on January 10, 2023. By then I must have made my choice since I definitely refuse to bow to the shenanigans of Win10 a/u. Years ago I had decided on Linux Mint KDE, but they foolishly dropped that after 18.3, thus banning themselves from my list 4ever. At present I'm heavily leaning toward MX Linux KDE. :_[ hYlkeW
