I dont understand why distro release desktop theme on its own instead of including them all together and allow ppl to switch between them easily

A. When I install Linux for family and friends. I installed both The GNOME Desktop Environment and The KDE / Plasma Desktop Environment.

B. I've found that some KDE / Plasma applications don't work well under The GNOME Desktop Environment.

C. For maximum software compatibility I install both Desktop Environments.

D. Does anyone else install both The GNOME Desktop Environment and The KDE / Plasma Desktop Environment on the same Linux installation? If YES. Please leave a reply to this list of comments explaining why you install both Desktop Environments on the same Linux installation.

The problem with gnome extensions is when you update to a new version. A lot of things can break and you end up with a non-working environment

At the moment I run MX-Linux and use XFCE but also have Fluxbox, which is extremly lightweight and I'm very interested in KDE 6 but must first ask in the MX-Forum as it's using Wayland instead of X11 and MX offeres only Version 5 in the moment. Same to Gnome. The package installation tool offers only a minimal Version of it and I will also ask in the Forum if it's possible installing Gnome full Version on my system. I like to switch from time to time from one Desktop-Enviroment to another.

I managed to cripple Debian's Gnome just by using it. In two days of playing, during a mucommander search, I lost control over Gnome desktop. Windows were no longer responsive to clicks. Only the sidebar. And what made it worse, it did not fix itself on reboot. I had to delete the VM.

Plasma 5.27, while fedora with plasma 6.1 just exists. In that case, a dwarf is better. And if kde, you should look for something else

Plasma 6.1 is awesome. Gnome has lost direction I feel. I used gnome for about 10 years until this year I gave up. Gnome is piecemeal now and getting a consistent desktop experience especially after each version update is extremely difficult.

Most apps running under KDE look like they belong there. Gnome, nope. Way too much difference between gtk3, gtk4, libadwaita, flatpaks that don't theme etc looks very unorganized and different.

Too many times gnome breaks or just feels and looks off.

Again I feel gnome has lost its way. Too bad my friend.

It's NOT g-nome. It's Gnome.
