Manjaro Pahvo | The Best GNOME Experience

Manjaro have just released the latest update to their popular Arch based distribution. Manjaro 21.1 codenamed Pahvo is now available and brings with it many new features. The feature I'm most excited about with this release is the enhanced support for BTRFS including automatic snapshots. In this video I take a look at their GNOME edition which has been reworked for GNOME 40.

We also added grub-btrfs so you simply can also boot up an old snapshot do something there and reboot and select another one. Since we hide the bootloader you may need to hit ESC to display it.

Tyler, I want to thank you for your efforts at presenting new Linux technology. I very much appreciated your presentations for Zorin OS, and for Elementary OS. You covered all the salient points and deficiencies in the mentioned two. On a weekly basis, I have been looking forward to your well researched presentations.

I tried to watch today's Manjaro presentation, but had to leave it for a while. It took me three sitting attempts to complete the entire presentation. It is really a very significant distribution that I will be testing for my requirements. In the 29.47 seconds you covered the essentials from A to Z.

I do have a suggestion about how to improve your presentations. It is called "Short pausing at the end of paragraphs or chapters". The same pauses you would do if you were doing a presentation "face to face". For the 29.47 minutes limit to which you edited your review, there was about two seconds of pause --almost zero silence. Pauses of one or 1.5 seconds pauses are so important, so that we watchers could grasp a topic change, and better appreciate the effort you put into reviewing, videoing the material, and editing. Do you have a time limit imposed by YouTube that you must complete a video in under 30 minutes? Please consider this paragraph as providing postive feedback.

I just installed Manjaro Gnome 21.1.5 on a couple of machines overnight. We were looking for a Linux with the same aesthetic & functionality of Chrome OS, but with the added functionality of native Linux. Absolutely floored by the polish and attention to detail. Until now I have been a stickler for KDE but the Manjaro Gnome implementation is so impressive I am happy to use it for the first time since the massive upheaval to Gnome 3..

I had high hopes for Timeshift+btrfs but that YouTube shortcut is still there after the restore, which leaves me wondering what else is actually left untouched. That said, I'm definitely giving Pahvo a try. I'm glad I found your video. Thanks for this relatively comprehensive overview.

Great video, never knew about timeshift utility on Linux. Also Manjaro seems to be making a lot of nice enhancements as usual. I love how they bundle all these Window managers, desktop environments, etc. separately pre customized and it saves a lot of time.
