Van Moof looked cool & had some cool features, but they didn't perform well compared to mid drive ebikes, were very expensive & a maintenance nightmare. Having said that, a lot of other ebikes are nearly as bad, it's an emerging technology that's still unrefined in a lot of ways. For example, lots of ebikes use transmission systems designed for ordinary bikes that can't cope with the power involved, resulting in excessive wear & breakage. Shimano are working on ebike specific transmissions, but it'll be a few years before other manufacturers catch up & such systems are well developed, economic, & easily available imo.
