Yeh this is definitely a worry for future EV's as if the parent company goes bankrupt how are people supposed to get updates or track the vehicles. Sounds like new laws need to be passed to protect the consumer in case things like this happen in future

This is a MAJOR problem for so many e-bikes whether it's a cheap crappy generic brand or an exclusive premium brand like Vanmoof.
I actually wasn't aware of the need for certain e-bikes to be connected to a specific site or app to work. I assumed this was just for statistics, tracking and mileage and so on.
But literally millions of people have bought e-bikes with unique and proprietary parts that are just not repairable or replaceable if the company or supplier goes out of business .
So you can have an e-bike that may have cost several thousands that after a year or two is good for nothing but the scrapheap.
This is a real problem and there needs to be protection for the consumer.
A bicycle OR AN E-BIKE should ideally be like Triggers broom.
Apart from the actual frame I can replace everything on my ordinary hybrid bike and it's still the same bike. Maybe after I've replaced everything on it I might just get a new frame too? It's still the same bike isn't it? Just like Triggers broom! A bicycle can last 20 years, 50 years. As long as you can keep replacing parts.
But so many of these bikes and manufacturers are just startups or generic companies and there's nothing there to depend on after you hand over your money.
I am in the market for an e-bike but the vast majority of bikes I put the hard question to about their long term repairability and longevity I'm finding there's no guarantees beyond a couple of years at best. I've had sellers in a few bike shops turn around and walk away from me because they had nothing they could guarantee fully repairable outside of it's warranty and refused to answer my questions.
This would not be tolerated in the car industry. And many e-bikes cost a fair proportion of the cost of a brand new car. Vanmoof being a case in point. You could certainly buy a good second hand car for the price of one.
It is more than a little bit of the wild west ot there with e-bikes and e-scooters. 🤔

I would double-check the 180k of venture capital you mention, it might have been slightly more🤑🤣

Glad, Cowboy's Bikey app was able to save the day this time, but definitety there is need of new amendment in Consumer Protection Act for E-Bikes & E-Scooters that requires internet to use the vehicle.
